LCR plus my girlfriend. Ammo issue...

My girlfriend has an LCR and I bought her some Critical Defense +p ammo (135 gr). That load seems to be a bit too hot. She loses accuracy due to the kick it has. I want to know what other rounds out there have less kick without sacrificing too much stopping power. I know I can always go to a regular 38 sp, but I (and her) wanna know if there are +p's with lighter loads? Please help.

Federal makes a 110 grain HP load in their personal defense line. It's not +P, but seems to be warmer than most standard .38 loads. it's very accurate in my LCR.

Physics my man. Just drop down to any 38 special 110-125gr self defense ammo. Hornady makes a 110gr flex tip or a 125gr XTP. Both should work well and have less recoil.

+1 - A hit with a .22 beats a miss with a .44 every time.

I would go with the Critical Defense 110 gr in non-+P for anyone that is recoil adverse. Very comfortable in the LCR and very accurate.

You may give up some "stopping power," but the gain is in confidence and precision with the weapon.

Just go to a 38SP 125 grain standard load with a good bullet ... she'll be fine. Even a 158 will be fine in std 38sp.

I would look at the old standby cop bullet in 38 special 158 gr SWCLHP. THey have a good reputation and once she gets her confidence back should be good to go. Confidence and attitude go a long way to keep from having to shoot someone. "The mere presence of a firearm, prevents many crimes"

Federal Hydra-Shok in .38spl JHP. It's great in lightweight revolvers -- Even my 78 year old mom has no trouble handling the recoil!

In a lightweight revolver, they have no peer. They are strictly defensive loads, dropping energy rapidly after about 20 yards.

My 442 stays stoked with them for a decade and a half.

Try Buffalo Bore's "standard pressure" (850 fps) 158-grain lead semiwadcutter hollowpoint loading in .38 Special. It's what I use in my Airweight, and as a bonus it seems to have lower muzzle flash than many other loadings. The fact that .38s tend to be regulated for 158-grain bullets is a bonus.

Careful, though. Buffalo Bore also offers a similar loading in a "Heavy .38 Spl" +P at 1000 fps. The boxes do look a bit alike...
