Picked up a LCR, with CT's at Tampa gun show this past weekend. As usual, we HAD to have it...and it was a DEAL, plus the dog ate my homework??? Any other good excuses?

GAS...Gun acquisition syndrome...had to have it.

I have only shot about 30 rounds but big learning curve with the CT's. Surely shows you how much we pull off target when we fire.

I hear this little beauty is a "handful" with the CT grips if you do +p...anybody here care to comment on that? My wife plans to carry this gun in her purse. I don't want her to get put off by recoil so will hold off on the defensive ammo for now.

What's not to like???

:D

It's not as bad as people seem to think. I've put a lot of rounds through my LCR since installing the CT grips and the more you use it, the better you'll like it.

.38spl-158gr. SWC for cool/cold weather and a .38spl-158gr. JHP for warm weather would be dandy for the Mrs.!

I have the same setup, which replaced an unworthy Kahr PM9, and am totally sold on both the LCR and the CT. I have put about 400 rounds through mine and it keeps getting better. The trigger is smooth and with the CT I am way more able to place shots consistently than with the balky PM9. My only problem is I have to remind myself to practice with the iron sights too!

I've had the pleasure of shooting several LCRs: one with and the other without the CT grips. I really liked both of them.

Any light, small revolver will likely not make a recoil-sensitive person happy, but I found the LCR to be slightly better than my S&W 642. If she really likes that gun, but doesn't want hard recoil loads, you may want to try to find some Federal Nyclad 125 gr HP. Standard pressure with a nylon, not copper, jacket on soft lead. Penetration isn't great, but expansion even at low velocities is pretty good. Since you are in Tampa, clothes are usually not heavy, even in the winter.

The LCR recoils a little less than many small revolvers due to excellent Hogue Grips that are larger than normal for the size of the snubnose.

As for ammo, 148-gr. Wadcutters are likely to give you the lowest recoil and raise the fun-factor in shooting the LCR for practice. 130-gr. ball is slightly snappier and very manageable for a lady at the range.

For self defense out of a short barrel, suggest you consider hollowpoint ammo with a fast burning powder, like Speer's excellent 135-gr. Short Barrel Gold Dot load that is bonded for adequate penetration. It has a little less recoil than the FBI load of LWSCHP 158-gr., penetrates about the same and has a lot more expansion.

Regular 38 Special ammo wastes a lot of powder out of short-barreled revolvers. Snubnose handguns can be optimized with faster burning powders designed for short barrels.
