LC9 slide lock problem

Mine seems "sticky" too. I have to pull back on the slide in order to depress the lever to move the slide forward.
In fairness to the gun, that problem is compounded by the fact that I'm left handed and the release lever is on the wrong (to me) side.

Normally,on the new LC9,you have to release the slide with your fingers a while until about 2-300 rounds and then see if the slide release works like it's suppose to.
I don't think it was actually designed to be a release like say a 1911 has. But I do know that after awhile some folks get it to.
The manual refers to it as a "Slide Hold Open" and says "...the slide hold open can be released by drawing back slightly on the slide. When the slide is released, it will move forward under pressure from the recoil spring"
My only concern is that if it were not actually designed as a slide "release", that by forcing it to do that might wear the hold open piece down to a place where it doesn't function like it was intended. But I don't know enough about it to say for sure, just something I wonder about.

I agree with Jer75 I don't think it is meant to be a "slide release" ; that's not how it is labeled. I always sling shot the slide on all my guns in order to load a round.
I think the sling shot is a better habit to get into. It could help clear a problem in an emergency.

As an aside, I now have 900 rounds through mine (No failures of any kind BTW)
Most of my current 9mm ammo usage has been breaking in the SR9c, so round count on the LC9 hasn't went up too much lately. But because I haven't tried to use the slide hold open as a release, it's just as hard to try and get it to release after 900 rounds as it was from day one. Pretty much un-doable on mine anyway.
So at least on mine, round count hasn't seemed to make a difference. But again, I probably haven't tried it more than two or three times and that's generally only after reading posts concerning the subject, just to see how mine reacts.

Yep, that slide release is not designed to work like a 1911 as you are suppose to grab the slide then depress the release. 600 rounds and counting, with no problems.

They have been recommending the Sling Shot method!
This was the same question (issue) with the SR9, SR9c, SR40 and now the SR40c too.

Thanks everyone for clearing that up. Out of excitement I just went over the disassembly/reassembly in more depth than the rest of the manual.
I guess that would be a good habit to get into simply for the emergencies. It was always a habit for me to just release the slide with my thumb while target shooting. I think being left handed, it's probably better to sling shot instead. Gonna try and do this from now on.

I just purchased my lc9 and it feels great except for one major problem. If the slide lock is engaged manually or as a result of the last bullet being ejected I can not release the slide without manually pushing down the lock.
I cannot get the slide to release with the slingshot method.

The slide locks open on the empty mag and you should not be able to slingshot it. The mag hold open is performing as it should - holding the slide open on the last shot.
Then once you insert a loaded mag it'll work to slingshot the first round to battery.

Well, the slide lock on the pf9 was NOT designed to function as a slide release, so I think the LC9 is probably the same idea.
