LC9 not ejecting fired rounds

I just traded in my PF9 for the LC9 today, and initially I am very impressed. It's a lot more accurate with a lot less recoil. However, after shooting about 50 rounds it started to not properly eject fired rounds. They would just stay in the ejection port. This would happen about twice a clip.

Could this have anything to do with it being extremely greasy combined with shooting off rounds? I noticed the everything inside the slide was absurdly greasy.

Anyone else have this problem right after purchase?

Need to clean it real good before shooting. I cleaned mine before the first shot, it was real greasy inside.

Thats what I figured it was. I cleaned it already, just wish I could fire some rounds now to test it. I can wait a week I guess. I went straight from purchasing to shooting because I didn't really have time to come back home and clean it.

I will say I am now a huge Ruger fan. I bought a P97 used for $300 (came with 2 mags, case, and original instructions and padlock) and that gun shoots beautifully. One of the best purchases I had came across. After that I decided to trade in my PF9 (which I was never impressed with, it had way too much recoil and wasn't balanced well at all) for the LC9 and so far I don't regret it one bit, as long as this issue is just because of hose greasy it was.

Sorry to hear about the issues,,,,
I took mine straight to the range with out a hiccup.... But only 50 rounds the first time. Then I cleaned it, not real dirty or greasy.

Yeah, like I said the first 50 shot flawlessly, then after that it started to not eject so I am thinking enough gunpowder attached itself to the grease and caused the problem. It was extremely greasy.

I actually fired 50 rounds from mine before cleaning the preservative off and didn't have a single problem. Honestly, I was surprised because that stuff is pretty thick.

You may also want to try a different brand of ammo when you go out shooting again. My LCP absolutely refuses to eat Speer Lawman ammo.

I had several failures to eject for about the first 150 rounds then it settled in and I was a happy camper until I bought a box of of Remington Peters on sale at Dicks. Nothing but problems with them - could not get a full mag through Elsie without at least one FTE. Today I went back to the range with Fed. American Eagle (which I had been using until RP incident) and had no problems at all. My assumption is the RP will not work on my gun.

As already mentioned, it's always a good idea to clean a New Gun before firing it. The preservative that's in there, is more grease than oil. The company ships it greasy to preserve it, and it's up to us... the New Owners... to clean that gunk out, and properly lubricate it.

I never fire a New Gun, unless I spend some time cleaning out the gunk, and then giving it a good oiling. A clean gun is a happy gun! Treat it right, and it'll fire every time!

Were you using Brass Case Ammo, or Steel Case Ammo? Just curious. I've read a lot of negative with Steel Case Ammo causing problems in some guns. Some will cause FTL's & FTE's, while others will eat it like candy. Not saying the LC9 specifically, just guns in general.

Well, got to try it again today. It is still giving me the same problem. I tried 3 different types of ammo today. Tried 124 grain, 115, and steel case ammo. They all consistently have the same failed to eject problem. It looks like the magazine may be pushing on the fired case not allowing the ejector to properly eject the fired case because the case is still in the barrel and you can see the top of the round hitting on the end of the fired case. However, I did buy a second magazine this weekend and tried both and both magazines do that, so I am not too certain at this point.

I even tried cleaning it and shooting more after, it still had the problem. It happens at least 2 times in a full magazine. I don't think I have actually fired a full magazine without it happening since the first 50 rounds I put though it.

I am taking it to the gunsmith tomorrow, we'll see. I love the gun when it works and from what I see this is definitely an isolated issue.

I really want to use this as my carry gun. I am currently using my Walther PPK which I love to death, but I would like that gun to stay home for the most party because it's my favorite, and also the easiest gun for my wife to use.

I would give Ruger a call first and explain you problem. They should be able to help you and they have very good customer service(IMHO).

And if he FUBAR's the gun your warranty is null & void. :wink: Shoot it some more & break it in. Try some better quality ammo, keep it clean & be sure to clean under the extractor extremely well. Lube well. :wink: For now you are pole vaulting over a mouse turd IMO. Give it time to break in.

I have put nearly 300 rounds through it already and tried 5 different types of ammo. Tried good quality and cheap ammo. Actually, the cheaper ammo seemed to work a little better (not by much). I trust the guy I am going to, it's the same guy who I bought it from. He's honest enough to where if he fucks something up, he will tell me and replace it.

It's just frustrating seeing everyone else who has the gun put 200+ rounds with maybe 1 or 2 problems and mine has a fte 2+ times a magazine.

Sounds more like a failure to extract. Does the extractor claw look normal? Does it feel like it has strong spring tension? Is it possible that you are riding your thumb on the slide, not allowing the gun to properly cycle on it's own?

I can almost be 100% sure that if the gun shop/vendor had dropped the ball and you had called Ruger, the outcome would have been the same(IMHO). If the vendor was Davidson's, I think they have a pretty good guarantee also.

Ruger would of had me pay for shipping, not that I would be opposed to that, it's just this outcome works the best. Don't know who the Vendor is, I do know they supply a lot of my area.

I just bought a new LC9. I fired my first 50 Winchester "white box" 115 rounds, and I too had 1 in 6 fail to eject. I was only loading the clip with 6 shots. It always was the 2nd 3rd or 4th shot that failed to eject. Never the first or last.

I cleaned the gun per the suggestions on this forum, and am going to try another 50. I wish I was more optimistic.

I cleaned ALL the grease out of the gun and ran another 50 through.. This time with Remington 115 FMJ, and experienced no FTE's! That is good news. I was going to return it to Ruger, but think I will try another 50 combo of Federal and Remington. If no FTE then I am good to go.

This is JMHO, but I always steer clear of Remington ammo. Not only in centerfire, but in rimfire as well. Any ammo manufacturer has recalls from time to time but it seems Remington has more than their fair share. Here is one item that I remember from a while back:
