Anyone had any issues with light strike misfires? Just got my LC9 today, serial number is 320-726XX and the test fire date is August 2011 so I think this is a recent production. That being said I am wondering why I am having light stirkes on ammo. I did not clean it out of the factory gunk before shooting 50 rounds of cheap ammo. Had a few light strikes. Got home and cleaned it and fired a few rounds of Winchester Ranger ammo and it seems to be making a deeper firing pin indention now. Also I noticed that the rear site does not have the adjustable arrow directions like I have seen on some LC9's. I have read where some have had this issue in ealrier models and sent it back to Ruger for repair. Has this issue been corrected on later LC9's and what exactly does Ruger do to correct the issue if you send it in to them?

I agree with the above poster that you should always clean and properly lube a new firearm before shooting, and that failure to do so may very well be the cause of the OP's problem. However, this light strike issue with the LC9 seems to be coming up fairly frequently on the other forums.

I fired first 100 rounds through my new LC9 on Sunday and had 1 lightstrike. I was told that this is often caused by tiny metal chips, that are "sheared" of the upswept material of a fired primer (I mean around the pin's indention). When it's fired, barrel tilts down (pretty fast on this construction) and the sharp edge of firing pin channel's opening shears a bit of the primer protrusion before the brass is extracted and ejected. When such bits get into the channel, they cause the firing pin to slow or stop, thus causing lightstrikes. It should get better once the pistol breaks in and the channel's opening gets a little smoother. The channel should have been cleaned often, as well as the firing pin, especially if you carry it as a defence gun.
It sounds reasonable and came to me from a well respected gun person, so I guess it might be the true reason of LC9 lightstrikes.

My LC9 is earler production 6/9/11 and it has lite strikes during the first 200-250 rds. After cleaning the firing pin hole with brake cleaner and air hose it has fired the last 100 rds. I'm going to fire a couple 100 more rds before I CC it. I think Ruger needs to correct this problem, maybe make the firing pin channel bigger or polish it before they leave the factory.

gun and the first 550 rds were without problems. Out of the next 50 rds
I had 7 failure to fire due to light strikes. I then cleaned the gun including
removing the firing pin and cleaning the channel it rides in. The next time
I went to the range I had 3 FTF out of 50 rds. Next I called Ruger and they said send it in. They sent me a mailing label and I am now waiting on the gun to return. I am hoping when I get it back it will be 100%, if
not it goes back.

How is the slide disassembled? I want to check the firing pin.

To remove the firing pin first remove the slide from the frame. Then knock out the roll pin (part # 35) that holds the loaded chamber indicator
in the slide. The loaded chamber indicator(#30), loaded chamber indicator spring(#33) and the firing pin retainer(#34) will come out.
Next turn the slide over and depress the firing pin blocker(#32) and the
firing pin and spring will come out. Hope this helps.

Mine was test fired on 5/19/11. I have had zero issues. No light strikes, no issues whatsoever. I clean it thoroughly after every use.

Went out today and fired the LC9 100 more rds and had 4 lite strikes with factory ammo. A Ruger Rep. was at a local gun shop today and I took the LC9 in and explained the problem, its on its way back to the factory. Hope they fix the problem cause I like the pistol.

I think I found the fix. Chamfer the firing pin hole.
I have done this to a few of these at the range and it seams to solve the problem of light strikes and shavings in the hole. I simply edge the top 1/3 or so of the hole with my pocket knife.

Mine had light strikes on purchase. Discovered the problem was metal slivers in the firing pin channel. When it kept recurring, I sent it to Ruger. Got it back 9/27 and went to the range 10/2. Ruger said they repaired the slide and fired 35 rounds without problem. My first light strike was round 14. By round 35 I had 5. Going back to Ruger when I get the shipping papers.
This had not been a great experience. My Taurus 738 has a better reliability record than the LC9.
