Is there a way to disconnect the mag disconnect on the LC9. I can live with the other safeties but really see a possible problem with this one.

thanks for the help

Why don't people just buy guns that DON'T HAVE THIS FEATURE if they don't want it ???????

Well your right to a point. I guess in the real world you have to make compromises on just about everything. Like most they don't make the gun I want so I have to go to the next best thing.

To me number one is reliability. From most reports the LC9 does very well there. The next is size again high scores. I don't mind the rest but not sure a mag disconnect on a ccw pistol is a good thing.

Now if I could find a pistol with the following I would buy it.

Reliable as the LC9.
Size and weight of the LC9 or smaller.
Double and single action(not on the LC9)
Double strike capability
No mag disconnect

The problem, as far as I know, is that pistol does not exist. I can live with the single strike but prefer not to have the mag disconnect. To my thinking the only way to make it as close as possible to what I am looking for is to disconnect the mag disconnect.

If you know of one that would fit my needs please let me know. I really would rather buy exactly what I want out of the box, just haven't been able to find it. Maybe the CZ 2075P but it is a bit heavier and a bit lager.

Like the Mark III. I wanted the nice mag release, and it was easy to get rid of the mag safety. Better than settling for a used Mark II. The LCI was a bit more work to get rid of neatly, but still worth it.

Why don't companies just make guns that DON'T HAVE THESE FEATURES that people don't want ???????

Mr. Thumbs I would also like to know. As far as the Rev states here is your answer. Because I want the size and reliability of the gun. I do not want the Mag Disconnect and they do not offer that option from the factory! GOT IT?

I really like Rugers recent line of guns, the only problem is because they want to sell them in Kommiefornia, they have to have all of this stupid stuff like an LCI and mag disconnect.

Now, if the sucky "features" weren't so easily remedied, I probably would buy something else, but the mag disconnect, at least on the SR's takes about 45 seconds to remove, that's not a big enough issue to keep me from buying one. In fact, since I always thoroughly clean any new gun, and you have to remove the striker to do that, and the mag disconnect comes out when you remove the striker, it's not even an extra step.

Shaving down the LCI was a little more involved, but even that only took about 15 minutes. After those two minor things, the guns are nearly perfect to me.

Why stick everyone with screwed up guns? Why can't they just make "California" guns separately? In many cases it only involves a part substitution, or skipping a machining step or two to make guns for the unweird states.

Like the Mark III LCI. Don't cut the slot in the receiver, or the grooves in the bolt. Omitting the mag safety, just use the Mark II hammer and bushing instead.

I think it's stupid too that Ruger makes all of the guns Cali complaint, instead of either not selling to that market at all, or at least make a non-commie model for the rest of the free United States which buys 90% of their guns anyway.

I do not have the LC9 as of yet. That really was my question. How do you disconnect the mag disconnect? How is it done or is it so simple I will see it when I take the thing apart?

I understand Ruger's position. Because of suits and state laws I guess they have to do something. I don't particularly like it but I understand it.

The problem for me, as I have stated, is the LC9 is pretty close to what I am lookin for. I just don't know of another pistol that gets as close. If there is please let me know. I would like double and single action but it is what it is I guess.

100% agreed ! :D

Agreed .... but removing it from a CCW gun is probably a worse thing...

I know everyone has an opinion on this one way or the other, but I won't remove a safety device from ANY gun that I'm going to be carrying.

Not positive .... but isn't the LC9 pretty much like the LCP .... DAO ?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about "modifying" a carry pistol. That makes the mag release even worse. I can imagine how the lawyers could get into that. A bit like carrying your own reloads as defensive ammo.

I guess it really isn't a major problem. I just think if for some reason either by mistake or in a struggle the mag came loose your sol. As soon as the mag comes loose you have a very light brick in your hand. Not sure I wouldn't like to have at least the one round in the chamber. I just don't know what the mag disconnect is really there for. I say this honestly and not trying to start something. Why is it needed? Ok I can understand the LCI I can understand the manual safety but I don't understand the mag disconnect. I would think if they put the manual safety on the pistol they could have made the trigger pull a lot lighter and shorter also. I'm just sayin. Again I can live with all of them I guess I just don't get the mag release. The only thing I can think of is a person may think the pistol is unloaded without the magazine in it and pull the trigger and not expecting the pistol to fire. Or if they take the mag out and leave the pistol unattended maybe someone could pick it up and fire without wanting to. To me the LCI takes care of that along with proper firearm handling. Idono why is it there in the first place??

Are you ready for this ??

Right ... It's for STUPID MORONS who eject the mag, and think the gun is now empty, and then look into the muzzle and pull the trigger .... or point the gun at their foot and pull the trigger .... as below ....

I be de only one in dis room professional enuff dat I know of to handle dis Glock fotey .... LOL !!! :D

Opinions definitely differ on whether modifying a gun is a good idea. Me personally, I think it boils down to what that modification is.

Me personally, I can't see any case where removing the mag disconnect could cause me any problem. I can't think of any case where after a justified self defense shooting, any gun experts would confiscate the gun and go over it with a fine toothed comb trying to find anything modified, as the mag disconnect would have no bearing on the actual shooting. It's not like modifying the gun into something illegal like full auto or anything.

Now, if say someone tried to sue Ruger for shooting themselves or whatever, and blamed it on the gun, well then I'm sure Ruger lawyers would have plenty to say about the owner removing the disconnect and clearing Ruger of any wrong doing.

Not modifying the gun is just fine for anyone that chooses that route too. I don't necessarily believe everyone should remove it, only if you don't like it, otherwise, there isn't any reason to mess with it.

As far as the LC9, from what I understand, the mag disconnects removal is more involved than on the SR9's, but I don't know exactly what it takes to do it, but I do know it can be done.

The idea behind the LCI isn't that bad, they are just way to tall from the factory. I didn't remove mine, I just filed them down so they aren't nearly as tall, but they still function. I see that mod no worse than trigger mods, or anything else that many people do to their guns without considering the possibility of going to jail. In fact, I could see trigger mods being a bigger issue than the LCI or mag disconnect.

Think of ANY non-gun-friendly state, or ANY municipality where the prosecutor is anti-gun, and you have your answer. Why give ANY ammunition to your potential opponents in court when it's so easy not to ?

If your CCW gun is bone-stock and anything comes up, you can say Hey ... you got a problem with my gun ?? Go talk to Ruger, and then Ruger will have to defend themselves in court.

If you modify your gun in the least (other than things like sights or grips) .... Ruger can, and WILL SAY .... Hey .... the gun was modified against our recommendations ... Go talk to the shooter .... Not a situation I want to be in.

Yeah I think a mag disconnect would have worked here. Oh wait the mag was in the pistol right? Sorry Oh but if the Glock would have had a LCI that would have prevented the shooting right? Oh maybe not but................... Maybe a brain may have helped. Hmmmmm now that very well may have been the safety he needed. Good thing he didn't kill someone in the "class".

Ya just can't fix stupid nor can you prevent it.

I think the best part of the video was when they brought out the rifle, after the shooting, and the kids said "put it down". I that case they were a heck of a lot smarter than the idiot in front of the class.

I agree about any mod to any pistol. I don't think it makes a difference if it has anything to do with the operation of the pistol or not. When it gets in front of a jury that may or may not be gun friendly a slick lawyer can spin anything and people will believe it. Heck they voted for Obama. OOOps sorry.

I have no exp with the LC9 but I do understand mags can come loose. Yes you can tap and rack as long as the mag is still in the pistol. If not it is possible the safety killed ya.

I'm not saying you don't make some valid points, but I can honestly say I've never heard of such a thing happening here in AZ, or really anywhere else for that matter. Is it a safer bet that I would be more likely to have problems because I removed the disconnect vs not removing it, of course, but is it any amount worth worrying about? That's where I say no.

I mean, if I'm involved in a justified self defense shooting, I could see the police possibly confiscating the gun temporarily, but after that, I don't see why any prosecutor would want the gun, then get an expert to completely disassemble it, then compare it to a Ruger exploded drawing looking for anything different. Most people don't even know enough about guns to know if the gun came with a disconnect or not, or what a mag disconnect even is. Now, obvious modifications to the outside of a gun, might very well lead to further investigation, but my guns look completely factory.

In the rare event the removed mag disconnect was discovered, I still don't know how I could be prosecuted for it, it's not illegal to remove it.

Anyway, it's a personal decision for the owner to make. I won't tell anyone what to do, I'm just explaining my reasoning for removing mine.

I don't see how/why removing the mag safety disconnect would alter the gun in a dangerous way, OTHER than letting the gun shoot without the magazine in, but MOST guns do this, and on a CCW gun that is meant to be CONCEALED, i don't want to be in a situation where i get jumped or have to draw extremely quick, only to find that i hit the magazine disconnect by accident and now i can't even use the one round in the chamber.
The only reason Ruger put it on is so it can be sold in California like someone else already said, so there is NO reason for it unless you are an idiot like the DEA agent in the youtube video posted above saying "im the only one qualified to handle this glock .40cal" lol, they played that video a couple times in my CCW class. On the front of his BPV it says SWAT or something but he's rally undercover DEA, if yo watch the full video by chance there's a part where he turn around after being shot and it shows his back, and he's DEA, we were told by my CCW instructor. Idiot plain and simple. So basically it's there for California and idiots.
To me, that's stupid. On a duty gun, totally understandable, someone could go for it and get ahold of it, you dont want your own gun used against you/on other people so you hit the mag disconnect as he's grabbing it from your holster and he has nothing but a heavy paperweight, that i understand. CCW gun/back-up gun like the LC9 is intended for, no. I do agree with you on one statement though, luckily everybody has their own opinion ;)..

Ruger is shooting themselves in the foot with this mag safety thing. They are losing sales as the buyer will look at other makes and models. As stated earlier, why not produce a model for California and the like. In this case now that the pistol is already out, produce a model for everyone else without the mag disconnect.
They are making guns like ladders and lawnmowers. So many stickers and safety devices that make them almost impossible to use. My brother in law worked for hours trying to get his mower to run. He was about ready to give up when he found a dirt dauber nest on one of the safety switches. That cost him a day to mow his grass. A handgun can cost you your life. :!:

Also, i'd MUCH rather deal with "having a modification to my gun and getting that one shot off to drop the BG and having to deal with courts" instead of being the one getting dropped and dying. Just my thought process, my first worry is my life, then things go down from there. If a magazine safety disconnect could possibly cause me to lose my life because i accidently hit the mag release while drawing, etc. i'm going to be the one getting shot. So again, i'll take the court system on a "weapons modifying charge" ANYDAY over being killed and my gun not being modified ;)

Ok up at the beginning of the post I asked for alternatives to the LC9. I realize as I stated that I'm probably not going to get what I want but I'll try.

Serfin the net came up with a couple. The CZ2075 and the DB9. Again nothin perfect but..........

Anyone have exp with either of these pistols? Man that DB9 is a great size but the cz has most of what I want. Anyway any exp with them???

I have a 2075 "RAMI", I really love CZ's but it is a double stack magazine gun. An SR9C has a slimmer grip and is about the same size. If I had to carry either I would choose an SR9C.

The odds of California approving a gun model that is made for "California only" is next to nil, there's a ton of reasons for that but one is California likes to think of themselves as the setter of standards.

Ruger (and other gun makers) is not going to make two different models because they would have to supply trigger and safety parts for both. You could take a California approved model and convert it to the other 48 or 49 states version and the parts would be supplied and made by Ruger, they would assume liability for that. 10 round magazines are one thing, trigger groups, safeties and disconnects are another, no gun maker will go through all that.

Try this website,

and also look on youtube, there is a good video on how to remove the LC9 mag disconnect.

That's definitely a lot more work than it is on the SR's, but doesn't look that bad, and is worth the effort in my opinion.

Definitely worth the effort. It's not too bad, my worst part was getting the damn two pins to line back up perfect at the end, and a little slowed down by the hammer assembly, but i got it all eventually. That video REALLY helps because you get to SEE what to do, i went off of the Ruger PDF file basically and saw parts 11/12 needed to come out ;)

Your welcome, glad to be of help. I have removed the mag disconnect on my SR9/40/C's, but havent had the "guts" to try on my new LC9. Maybe after its "breakin"! And, for those off topic folks, KAHR does make 2 versions of the P380, one for Kali and one for all other folks.
