Following is a short review for those of you who missed my previous posts. I preordered an LC9 and when it arrived at my LGS I decided not to buy it. After thinking about it for a week I went back and bought the pistol. Immediately I drove to the range for a test shoot. After 2 mags the hammer catch failed to operate. Also from a bench rest the pistol seemed to be shooting extremely low & left. After a 3 week round-trip to SRC in Prescott, it returned 1 ½ weeks ago. Ruger replaced the front sight, hammer catch/spring and frame pins.
For the past couple of days I’ve fired approximately 120 rounds of WWB, reloads & CorBon DPX with flawless operation. I’ve mixed loads in several mags with no adverse effects. The sights are usable for a SD pistol even with my aged eyesight. Normally after the 1st shot I switch to point n shoot. When Trijicon sights are available, the originals will be replaced.
For me, the LC9 seems well balanced, provides a decent grip with the mag extension, is easy to draw from a holster and has manageable recoil. The trigger pull is very smooth, the safety and mag release are easy to operate with one hand. The magazine easily inserts without having to depress the mag release. Most owners that experience a SD situation will likely not need a mag change. However if you do need a mag change it will be much smoother with the LC9 compared to the LCP. I am glad to see it has last round slide lock on an empty mag. I easily shot 3 to 5” groups at 21’ which is not bad with my eyesight.
Before an MVA 3yrs ago I weigh 225 lbs and wore 36” jeans. Today I weigh 170 lbs and wear 33” jeans. I can’t fit the LC9 in the front pocket of my jeans. It does fit nicely in my cargo pants/shorts pocket. Elsie in my cargo pockets was almost unnoticeable however the LC9 is on the verge of being too heavy for that type of carry. I am presently using a DeSantis Super Fly but will buy a IWB holster after I hear some reviews. By removing the outer cover of the Super Fly I can fit the LC9 in looser fitting front pants pockets however it is not comfortable like my elsie or P238.
Overall at this time I’am satisfied with the pistol but it certainly will not totally replace LCP or the p238 for everyday pocket carry.
