I've got a late 44 Flattop, sn 295xx, Oct, 62. From my limted research, it looks like it's just a few hundred from the last one. It's in excellent shape except for a little rash on the topstrap. It also has vintage XR3 stags on it. I know they're not factory, but at $13, they are probably as old as the gun. My annoying question concerns what the gun might be worth, as I may have to move it soon. Also, any idea what just the grips might be worth? I know these kinds of questions are annoying to some. Sorry, but I just need a ballpark. Thanks

Well the top strap sure hurts the guns value......hard to put an accurate price on it.....today's economics have also made it rather challenging to predict what a gun will sell for......the grips are nice and well worth the 13 dollar price :D :D :D just kidding.......put it on Gun Broker and start it at a penny......takes a little bit of courage but the market will decide what it is worth......make sure you list it in the RF auction section.....good luck with the sale....see ya RR.

Interesting! I have a pair of "July '62" .44's and they both have XR3-RED grip frames.

Yeah, the s/n's are real close to each other.... :D

The fact that your .44 is suffering from some Rust does indeed reduce the value. RR's approach may just be the way to find out what it's worth.

I agree with the approach, it's just too tough to value it right now.

I have a pair of Nov 1962 shipped guns, also in the 295XX range, that have XR3 gripframes but also have an Aug 62 gun, s/n 292XX, that is an XR3-RED. Parts bin theory at it's best!!

Thanks for the replies. I don't have the courage for a penny auction, but I guess Gunbroker would be the best option. Thanks again

I would venture to guess that the gun is probably worth around $600 in today's tough market due to the pitting on the topstrap.

Just taking a look at gunbroker and what is selling and for how much will give you a good indication.

The grips should be worth $200-$250.

Unfortunately, you can probably get more by splitting them up than trying to sell the package. If it were me and I was going to sell it, I'd find a cheap set of XR3 grips, stick it on the gun, and sell it for $600. I'd either keep the stags for a different gun or stick them here on the forum, or Ebay, for $200.

Just my $0.02

PS: I just realized that your gun is in the 295XX range. if you don't mind, could you PM/email me the full s/n. I'd like to see if it's consecutive to mine that are also in the 295XX range. Thanks.
