I mentioned that I had torn my Miniscus back earlier in the year but there have been a number of delays, but it is now scheduled at 6:30 am. My knee is still stiff and is still swelled up so it's time.

I have no idea how long recovery is, but I know I'm ready to do something different. It's going to be arthoscopic surgery so it's day surgery.
 
I had it done the muddle of last November and it was a very speedy recovery. Unfortunately I hyperextended in January when I slipped on the ice and it has set my recovery back a ways but it is still much better than walking around with a shredded meniscus. Just make sure you have the crutches properly adjusted before you leave the hospital. In fact, the knee scope healed so fast I had a total hip replaced on the other leg less than 4 weeks later!
 
Had meniscus surgery was back in 1999; Into the hospital on a Thursday around one o'clock and out the door by four/five with crutches. Fixed my own dinner, drove from Ft Myers home to Orlando Friday. They had me in physical therapy Tuesday. I was back to reffing HS Soccer two weeks later. The surgeon told me that during the World Cup they had a player with the same problem/surgery who played in a world cup match LESS than a week later.

Definitely take the crutches. Shoot if you could walk out, they wouldn't haul you out in the wheelchair like all hospitals do! The other thing about devices like crutches, walkers or trekking poles/canes is this give the folks around you a visual heads up to give you room as you are moving past them. They also give YOU a reminder that no matter how good it feels right away, that could be the meds talking and the tissue may have healed enough to feel normal during normal walking but trust me, you strain it, twist it or forget you just had a procedure done and it will wake you right up!

Just do what the MD's and PTs tell you- Ice can help for swelling and pain relief if directed by them.

Take your crutches with you and/or keep them close by- just in case your knee gets sore and you need them.
 
When Daughter had hers done, it was about 7-10 days before she was back at work. It slowed her down for 3-4 weeks when she went back since she had to use the elevator rather than run the stairs going from lab to patient floors. Her arthroscopy was done at the hospital where she worked and they had put some artificial flowers in a bedpan for her spot in the recovery area.

Speedy recovery to both of you. I had my left knee done in '94. Short recovery time, and it lasted through another twenty years of physical abuse, till being replaced in 2014.
 
BPJ I'll be praying and shaking my magic beans for you. Had a family friend that went through the same thing. Four weeks later he was good as new, stay tough.....
 
I DO wish you good luck with your surgery, a speedy recovery and a pain free future.
PS: The doctor that did my surgery told me that when he had his done he woke up and discovered his "friends" in the operating room had "thoughtfully" painted his toe nails a BRIGHT RED.
 
Well I lived. I call that a success. :) Had to be there at 6:30 this morning. Up at 5:00. I can tell you that crimps my style. They had an IV type deal in my hand, so they could stick a needle in it and give me medicine. They did that just before they took me to surgery. I remember thinking that's a small room. Must have been a force field of some kind, as I don't remember anything as I went through the door. Arthoscopic surgery must have started around 7:30 and they must have taken me to recovery around 8:30. I remember someone talking to me at some point from time to time, take a deep breath and cough. Each time I thought that was a weak cough. I wondered when they were going to do the surgery, and why my knee hurt. Anyway that was happening in recovery. They still take you out to the car in a wheel chair, here in Idaho. I have watched Criminal Minds shows while I dozed off and on today. Really like that show, but I haven't actually seen all the shows or followed to progressions, of comings and goings. Really like the guy who plays Gideon. Anyway, they said to take it easy for a couple of days and then I could start walking some. So I'll probably get to get a feel for the Criminal Mind series. I appreciate the prayers and suspect that will help with the healing part. I've limped for so long, not sure I can walk with out the limp. I'll call tomorrow and make a follow up appointment with the Dr. that did the surgery. I also got a call from the heart Dr. and they want to see me again as well. Maybe I'll actually get "the rest of the story". Thank you.
 
I had mine done on 3-9, snipped both sides of my right knee. Most pain 24-36 hours after as my calf really swelled up. 3 1/2 weeks later I'm pretty mobile and nearly pain free except I cannot go down stairs normally, nor can I bend my leg completely in, probably 25 degrees short or so. Pretty amazing how fast you lose strength. Good luck
 
I'm grateful that the surgery went well for you. :D (gives me some encouragement!)
Now, sit back and let the Lil' Lady baby you for awhile. :wink:

I did my pre-surgery testing this morning at the hospital, looks like I'm all set for next Tuesday.
