Karate

This reminds me of an incident that happened to me about 40 years ago.

I had an arrest warrant for a young man and I got a tip that he and a friend were at the local Gym. When I got to the Gym I found both men on a mat, both wearing white coats with, I believe, black belts looped around them, bare footed. They were jumping around, kicking, and throwing each other over their shoulders. I don't know if it was Karate or what.

I was in uniform and when I walked up to the pair I called out the name of the man I wanted. To that point I don't believe that they had even noticed me. As soon as I mentioned the man's name, he turned to face me, instantly jumped in the air with one foot flying at my face.

I instantly grabbed his foot with one hand as I ducked, then with both hands on his foot twisted it while still about face high. He fell on his head and shoulder with me still holding his foot and leg in the air. I dropped on him with my knee in his back holding him face down, and bent his legs into a "Boston Crab". Then with handcuffs on him I stood him up.

All the way to the car he complained that I had hurt his leg. So I stopped at our hospital on the way to jail where the doctor examined him. The decision was that he just had a slight sprain and a few days rest would take care of it. The doctor was right. He got a few days rest in jail.
