Stopped in to browse the used rifle rack at the local gunshop, and there sat an M77 tang safety in .338WM, with factory open sights!!! Metal is near perfect, wood has a few light marks, for just $395.
The "Flash" couldn't have whipped out his wallet as quickly as I did! She now is on layaway, and my Ruger family anxiously waits to welcome her home.

My dad has a tang safety .338WM. I believe it's a liberty model. He took it out west for several years and killed numerous elk with it. He liked the gun so much he hunted whitetails in Missouri with it for 20+ years. People would look at him funny when he told them that's what he deer hunted with, and he would say the gun "kills whatever I point it at."

I've shot it some, and it's not as bad as people make it out to be. I don't want to shoot it all day, but I can shoot 10 shots in a setting. Definitely enough to get it sighted in and do some practice.

A tang safety .338WM should serve you well.

I bought a hawkeye in 338 wm to match my 7 mm rem mag. In my opinion the 338 is nicer to shoot for some reason. Was using the Hornady superformance 200 gr which it loves, 2 shots regularly want to go through the same hole. Finished up with a nice 0.95 inch group at 200 meters (218 yards) with the last group. I definitely enjoy my rifle hope you have the same luck with yours.

Nice find! Never shot a .338 WM but I know many who love them. Can't go wrong with the M77.
I know when I first sighted in my .450 Marlin carbine, you couldn't have paid me to fire the 10th round. Enjoy!

When I stumbled across my Gold Label shotgun NIB, my Visa came out fo fast it sparked! :lol:

I picked up an old tang safety M77 on a whim a year and a half ago. It is in .243 Win. but what sold me was it has iron sights. I wish they were still an option on bolt guns these days. With its 18.5 inch barrel and slender stock it handles like a BB gun and it seems a shame to screw up that balance with a scope. Also, the trigger may have been reworked but it compares to my Savage accutrigger for precision and light pull.

I handled the same gun a few weeks ago.
Bob also had a sweet #1 in 308,nice but a little over priced.

Yeah, that No. 1 in .308 was a beauty. Probably worth the asking price, but out of my league right now (Daughter's wedding is next week!)
Did you see the used 300WM "All Weather" M77? Previous owner had shortened the barrel to 20". Imagine the muzzle blast :shock: :shock: :shock: !

I did notice the 300, I think there was a 280 also.
If that 338 had been a 30-06 it would have been gone!!!

Brings back some fond memories of a similar .338 WM, some handloaded 275 gr Speers, and gigantic icicles that formed on tugboat sized rocks in NW Pennsylvania after a thaw and hard refreeze.
Maybe the most accurate Ruger I ever owned, and is at the top of the "dumb trades that shouldn't have been made" list.
