Early this year I expressed my interest in adding an AR10 to the stable. For a nice pig gun to accompany my smaller PSA Freedom and AR556.

I have been reading serious issues on the SR762 and see only 2 (TWO) available on gunbroker. I'm very hesitant to purchase one and was wondering about your personal experiences with them. Good/Bad or compared to experiences with other AR10s.

I'm also considering building one.
Matrix Aerospace and Aero Precision both have some great deals on upper/lower parts...

Like everything else some lemons get out the door. But I would never pass on a ruger because of what someone said on a web site. I mean really if you do have an issue with it Ruger will fix it or replace it for ever.

Really??.............So something that is repeatedly talked about on forums as having "issues", wouldn't dissuade you from buying one. Sure would me, that is called research before you buy................As far as Ruger customer service, yep, it's great, but when THIS many people rave about it, is because a LOT of people have experience with it. That is NOT a good thing

Palmetto State Armory, CDNN and SOTA Arms have some gret deals on AR 10 style parts. Don't forget Numrich Arms for barrels. Even EBay lists AR 10 stuff, but because of their silly "anti-AW" rules don't search "AR 10" search "762 rifle barrel" and such.

I picked up a PTAC lower from PSA for $99.00, DSA upper from CDNN for $75.00 and a threaded 20" barrel from Numrich for $129.00. I have buckets of other AR stuff left over - pins, springs, grips, etc from other builds or take offs from building for friends. I think the whole thing cost me a strong $500.00 to build. Instead of the big $$$ rail I bought a DPMS free float - $48.00.

I've heard there's some risk involved marrying PTAC to DPMS, but I had no fit issue at all. Nice & tight, no shake or wiggle. I'm a "plinker" when it comes to any AR. The thing does +1" at 100 yds all day long with bulk ammo & that's fine for me.

I almost bought an Armalight in .243 a few years ago and I really wish I had. I know that Remington has a .243 AR.
55gr at 3900fps and 100gr at 3000fps, what is not to like about them.

Just a suggestion if I may, look into Windham Weaponry for a AR10 style rifle. I bought one in 308 last fall (Model SRC308) online at a fair price and am extremely pleased with my rifle's excellent accuracy and quality. Had the cash in hand then and couldn't find an Ruger SR762 for love nor money. Windham Weaponry makes excellent quality rifles at very fair prices. It's worth the time to check them out.

I know there's a lot of good rifles out there in AR-10 platform, and I don't claim to know all about them. Personally, I prefer those with a sleeker profile and w/o all the tactical rails and sharp edges everywhere. I've been really pleased with my Remington R-25 in .308. Very accurate, reliable so far, and mine is the flattop version with round handguard. It's the only camo rifle I own; when I was ready to buy one locally the Mossy Oak camo version is what was available.

I've heard the that the AR 10 that the Army has deployed are having problems and this is from guys that have hands on experience with them in combat
DPMS makes them , the SASS ( Semi Automatic Sniper System ) but they say their even more sensitive to dust and dirt , powder fouling than the M16A2 / M4 's that our guys are carrying.
That's why the military has pulled all the M 14's out of mothballs and fitted them into the Sage ERB chassis system as a designated marksman's rifle.
I don't know what the problem could be, if their maintained properly just as the M 16A2 are they should run just fine .
It may be a powder issue like it was with the early M 16's but the humidity in S.E.A. had a lot to do with that .That shouldn't be a problem over in the sandbox.
I just know the guys that have been there done that would rather have an M14 based DMR rather than an AR 10 based platform.
