SOLD

Ithaca Model 37 Featherweight, Built in 1956. 12ga, 2 3/4 inch shells only, 28" barrel, Modified choke. Engraved receiver (most likely roll marked)-left side is ducks in flight, right side dog with pheasants in flight. Bluing shows very, very little wear, wood is excellent.

It was pointed out to me that it may not be the original wood and the scenes are probably roll marked not engraved. But either way the gun is in excellent condition and show very little wear, a great example of this firearm.

Still a great looking gun made back when Ithaca took pride in the guns they made. I believe it is a slam fire gun.

I have had 4 of the 37s, 3 old as in 60s or earlier. Those were all slam fire. Normally never a problem for me until you shoot with gloves on your hands. FYI what is a slam fire? the gun fires when action is closed if you keep finger pressed in the firing position.
The pump handle wood looks original in style. The butt stock maybe not. I thought the recoil pad is original by what I remember. All 37s sporters that I know of have the scenes on the receiver. They made many 37s for police use and as I recall those had plain receivers.

I worked at Ithaca Gun in 68,69,and 70. All guns in that time frame started with a solid block of steel for the receiver. Many of the police 37's were roll stamped with the police dept. on the receiver. I worked in the polishing dept. and roll stamped many receivers. Not sure when they did away with slam fire. those would fire as fast as you could pump them if you held the trigger back. My 1969 Deerslayer 20 ga. was slam fire. Barrels were made starting with solid round bar stock.
