Is this the original trigger for my No. 1? Screws missing..

Embarrassed to say, but I finally took a good look at the trigger of my relatively new-to-me No. 1 looks different than I'd expect. I bought this gun a number of months ago, but was saving for a scope, and hadn't shot the gun even, until Sunday morning. I had it laying on the open gun case, with the lever thrown open. I noticed that the trigger was a brighter metal, possibly aluminum. The face of the trigger (where the trigger finger comes in contact) is grooved, not smooth. Also, there are two holes for adjustment screws, and both screws are missing.

Fwiw, the gun shot fine.

I'll try to attach a photo.

ps. I just bought a scope, and will be mounting it soon, in time for sighting in before rifle season in mid-October.

The #1 trigger has been aluminum since day one, back in 1967. They have simply anodized them black for most of the production. I have a 131 serial numbered blued/walnut gun that showed up with a "silver" trigger. I called Ruger, who said OOPS, would you like a black one? Yours simply missed a stage. Nope it works fine.

They simply chose to leave them white/silver for the stainless/laminate rifles.

Now as to why somebody removed the screws. The 2 screw trigger that you have is set at the factory and is essentially non adjustable. I SUSPECT a previous owner messed with it and found that after removing them there was no appreciable change in the trigger and just left them out??

Thanks RWT. As you might understand, to someone not familiar with the ins and outs of Ruger No 1 history, that it appeared "out of place".

Like I said, it shot fine, 'tho I have no reference for what poundage it takes to pull it. It is certainly not a hair trigger.

Most of the two screw triggers are/did leave the factory at somewhere between 4 and 6 pounds.

A GOOD smith can get them down to 3. My guy will take MINE to 2 pounds with zero creep and zero backlash but swears it's only because we have been friends for 30 years. Otherwise he stops at 3 pounds on that particular trigger. I like to go BOOM just about the time I THINK about it going off
