Is there a book on Ruger's

I have most books on Rugers,, and I can highly recommend the Wilson one as well as the John Dougan one; "Ruger Pistols & Revolvers the Vintage Years, 1949-1973." Those two are about the best. The Sweeney one is ok,, but I think the two I've mentioned are about the best.
If your interests are along the lines of the 22 semi's, (RST's MKI's, MKII's) then by all means get Chad Hiddlesons "Encyclopedia of Rugers 1949-1992." That book also has excellent medallion, box and paperwork info in it. Next,, the "Bill Rugers .22 Pistol" by by Don Findley.
So,, the best way to get the best info all around are the 4 books I mentioned.

I try to refrain from negative feed-back, but, this particular book contains about as many "in error" statements as it does useful info.

One photo is captioned Ruger Vaqueros but close inspection reveals skinny trigger Colt SAA's........... :shock:

OK Flatgate, I need help finding the picture of the Colt that is labeled a Vaquero. Can you tell me which page? I can only find the ones where they are both shown side by side. :?

Page 131. "these Vaqueros" It ain't one Colt, it's a RACK of them. One can see where the three lockwork screws will be fitted. Look at the base pins, as well.

Flip to page 158. "A rack of non-Hunter Super Blackhawks..." Hmm, the New Model Super Blackhawks, no matter what barrel length have either a Super Blackhawk hammer or, if a Bisley variant, a Bisley hammer.

There are numerous errors within the text, the kind of thing that drives the serious student "up a wall"....... :D

Check out page 28,, as it's the same rack of guns on page 158,, only it lists them as Bisley gripped Supers.

Well I was going to say that I should actually take time to read the book instead of just skimming the photos. Apparently that would be a waste of time though. After being snowed out for a couple of days, it seems there are a lot more pressing and important things to do.
Can't wait for Spring!!!!

As usual,, I agree with Flatgate. The Sweeney book is an ok read,, but there are several things that are a bit wrong. But,, so far,, NO book I've read on Rugers is 100% correct. But the ones mentioned above come mighty close,,! However,, the latest Dougan book DOES have an addendum to correct the mistakes all the proofreaders missed. That's the nature of the beast of publishing. You try & try to get all the facts correct,, yet,, it's easy to miss something,, or when it goes to the printer a mistake is made in layout etc.

I ordered Bill Ruger and his guns by Wilson. Thanks for the help, looks like a good book with plenty of info.

Yes, you'll like that one. Some great behind the scenes history on just about every model produced.
