Is a 1 3/4 lb trigger pull too light?

Hi,

I just modded up my 22 Hunter with the full Volquartsen accurizing package, replacing just about everything they had for my pistol. I was pretty unhappy with the trigger pull so having some extra cash, went for the changes.

After the modifications, I measured the trigger pull to be under 2 lbs at around 1 3/4 pounds. I've gone to the range a couple of times and loved it. My accuracy improved with the much smoother and lighter trigger pull.

My question is one of safety. Does anyone know if this is too light of a trigger pull and would it be prone to an accidental discharge if bumped with the safety off?

I don't have a problem with my finger being on the trigger at inappropriate times. The only time my finger is near the target is when I have a sight picture.

I have had the full Volq kit on my anniversary model for over 10 years and have never had any problems. You should be fine.

Thanks, I actually posted incorrectly. It's actually 1 1/4 lbs. I really do like the trigger now, short travel, little post travel and now so smooth.

I mainly wanted to know if anyone's had experience with accidental discharges (not touching the trigger).

My safty is on unless I am actually shooting it. I imagine if I were to drop it with the safety off and it hit just right that the trigger could fire, but that would probably happen if it were stock.

Unload it and smack it here and there with a rubber mallet. If it "uncocks", it's not drop safe.

If it's strictly for target work, you're just fine. If you want to make the pull a little heavier but still keep the crisp trigger, put the stock trigger return spring back in.

I have the Kidd two stage trigger. It is 1 and 3-4 or possibly even less. I ordered the lightest possible. It is only for bench rest shooting. Occasionally my finger will just brush the trigger and the gun shoots before I'm ready. This is not accidental discharge, I simply mean not ready in that I might not have the cross hairs of the scope exactly where I want them.

Too light you ask? I guess it depends on your shooting style. It is good for bench rest.

Not a question of keeping your finger off the trigger... just don"t load the chamber until the sights are on target.

26 oz on my beater 10/22 with just the installation of a Volquartsen target hammer [a blem purchased many years ago and $20]. Safe. I have Volquartsen hammers ONLY in my other 3 10/22 s- all came in at 2.5# MOL.

My lightest is 11 oz on an old Howa .243 varmint rifle, strictly a bench gun, not a walk around shooter as it weighs almost as much a 6' of railroad track.

If Volquartsen stuff, try the bump test, just to satisfy yourself.
