Interesting LC9 FTE

On my 2nd outing with my new LC9 I had two failures to eject. As a matter of fact they were failures to EXTRACT. Both were Win. WB 115 gr. and in the same mag.!! The other 98 were perfect as have been all Fed. Champ. 115 gr., Powerball, DPX, Speer 124 gr. +p, etc.

Both times I had to lock the slide back and drop the mag. Naturally, I did not drop the slide again as that is hard on the extractor with a chambered case. I rapped the butt gently on the bench w/ the muzzle pointed safely and they fell out.

Normally, this would worry me but since I have had problems in the past with WWB I am not too concerned as IMO it is garbage ammo & I'm thinking a few rims were out of spec. I only bought it as nothing else was available that day.

What is the round count since the last cleaning?

I only shot less than 100 rds. the first time and the gun was SCRUPULOUSLY cleaned better than a hound's tooth before & after and generously lubed with G96 CLP. :wink: The extractor was clean as a pin. I always clean after every range session. Just a habit from youth. :)

I have winchester FTE problems with my SR9c. Assuming the actions are similar...

What I've found is that the head is thicker on the Win. casings than other brands. I think the extractor has a fairly tight tolerance and sometimes doesn't grab a hold of the winchester casing. ALL of my failures with my sr9c have been with Win ammo. I'm gonna call them and see if they will repair it. I like win JHP's and those too do fail.

I hear you on the cleaning - A clean weapon is a happy weapon, IMO. I have not tried the WWB in my LC9. Maybe the WWB is something your LC9 doesn't like and should therefore be avoided?

I have 500 rounds of FMJ (115 gr, 124 gr & 147 gr) Federal, Monarch, American Eagle and Blazer Brass through mine without a single malfunction. Plan to start testing with HP carry ammo this next week - Will not carry a pistol until it can be trusted to function when called upon...

I used to buy mostly WWB. Several years ago I bought a new Taurus PT111. I had several malfs using the WWB ammo. I put the blame on the gun. Since then I have tried several other brands of ammo, and my own hand loads, and there has been no problems with the Taurus. Well, once the front sight flew off! I reinstalled the sight and have had no problems since.
My Hi-Power and S&W 669 eat the WWB ammo up. But these guns have never failed on any ammo. They just keep tickin'!

There are multiple threads running currently on three different gun forums I frequent regarding problems with WWB ammo.

Since 99% of the ammo I shoot is handloaded, it doesn't affect me, but I don't think I would buy any WWB ammo if I were in the market.

Out of another box of 100 WWB I had only one FTE today and none with Fed. Champion or Blazer. It's got to be the ammo IMO. On another note, the plastic cross pin in front of the trigger guard keeps "walking" to the left. I tapped it in and it did it again. :?
