In September of 1975 I applied for a job with a contracting/engineering firm. I was to be interviewed by the head of the Engineering Department on a Saturday morning. I arrived on time and was told to wait asthe Department Head was in a meeting. After waiting awhile, an engineer came and apologized to me as the DH was tied up. But as I was there, he would interview me.
After looking at drawings I had brought with me, he told me he could not hire me, asthat was Mr. P____'s respnsibkility, but he would reccommend that I woulf be hired, and for me to come in Monday morning.
Well, I returned Monday morning and after interviewing with the DH, I was hired. I noticed that he seemed more ill at ease than I did.
A few years later Jim W____, the man who had interviewed at first, and I were on a job on the Ohio River across from Cincinnatti, OH. As the job was finished, weree were travelling back to Memphis, I was driving. Jim asked me if I remember my interview, which I did, of course. He told me he went to the owner/President of the company and asked that I be hired. Mr. D_____, told him to tell Dave P______ that when I came in I was already hired.
I said if Ihad known that I would have asked for more money at the time!
