Ideals on long term storage

I am thinking about options for storing my 77's and #1's. I have bags coming from ZCP ttps://www.zcorrproducts.co and was planning on then putting them back into there original boxes. However the boxes have not faired to well. I have found a source for boxes with generic sleeves http://www.cameronpackaging.com/gun_boxes.html .

Once boxed, I was then going to use Stack On security cabinet or having a wooden crate made.

I'm looking for suggestions, comments, warnings or thoughts.

I have never had any problems with long time storage using a good protective coating like RIG and a gun safe, without boxes. Paper boxes can attract moisture. I like to keep them open, unwrapped so I can easily inspect.

i got a pelican double rifle case at Cabelas that is waterproof, airtight, and lockable. it has wheels,handles like luggage, and it is airline approved for transport. It fits under neath my bed, and will fit 2 normal rifles and a skinny 22 rifle (tightly). I added a few of the desicent packets for any moisture that may be in the case and store them for months without any problems. I used to store them in a closet , but found rust developing and decided that a 200-250 waterproof case would protect better that spending the big dollars for a safe.

The bux for a good fire rated safe are well spent if you have a fire.

I am in the market for a gun safe.
Outdoor world has a sheet steel 8 gun "safe" cabinet for 200 bucks.
Looks like 14 gage steel.
Has a piano hinge and a key lock but it sure ain't like those real safes.

I am limited to the size and weight because i rent a place thats only 300 sq feet and getting it into the door will be a challenge.

Right now they are stored in my closet heavily oiled but Mr Mikes story of rust is scaring me now that my investment has increased in value.

Might be best to get that safe and a dehumidifier.

Look at Wal-Mart they have a decent Sentry Safe with electronic lock on it for like $400 and it will fit in a closet. I have one in one of my closets and have not had a rust issue yet and some of mine stay put up for a while. I also use Tipton long term storage spray on a rag and wipe them down before storing them.

That is basically how they have been for the last 10+ years, but the cabinet they were in had not been opened. I just wanted to get them packed as tight as possible.
