It's kind of funny, after living in Chicago for 4 years and NJ for a couple, Dallas is a shock. When there is just a little ice, the whole city shuts down. I do understand though, they just don't have the resources to deal with weather like this. Before the storm, the news went on endlessly about the snowplows and the De-ice chemicals, sand etc. In Chicago that wasn't new worthy at all.

We have a Japanese Maple tree in our back yard.

The cat was cozy on this wool blanket we have. In fact I tried to get him off it and he scratched my hand really good. He did not want to give up his blanket.

Been in Houston when they were getting snow. Melting as it hit the ground as the ground had the warmth still and ppl were white-knuckled driving oh so slow. The whopping 2-3" sent everyone in a frenzy, bundled like Eskimos if they even dared venture outside.

Yep..Almost as funny as watching a bunch of yankees burn and blister on the beach at Galveston when the temp is barely 100 degrees....

I can say this "yankee" has done the TX heat, the 115º at the docks in Freeport, the 103º in the city. Done the heat and humidity in FL as well. Did it all in pants not shorts too. :) Really not that bad honestly. Don't forget, we do get the heat up here too. ;)
