Ok, Father's day is coming up, and my kids are probably going to get me the standard gifts. No complaints as I appreciate anything they do. Really, I consider my kids as gifts from God and nothing could be better.

However, I know I need a new wallet. I have been gifted some over the years, and many are junk. It seems that many of the leather wallets are something other than what I think of as leather. My current name brand wallet started disintegrating within a year, looking something like someone took it to a belt sander. It seems like leather-like paper. I don't know what the heck it is, even though the box said real leather.

Where do I find a decent wallet now? Department stores carry all the old names, but they aren't the same product from 40 years ago. Now that I think about it, most department store belts are throwaways after a year too, apparently, made from the same "real" leather material like the wallets.

So I am looking for brands that hold up more than a few months.
Ideas?

I've had 2 Fossil wallets that have held up amazingly well. I'd still be on my 1st except my son got me another and it's barely broken in after about 3 years.

I can fix you up with a handmade high quality leather wallet. My Son bought one custom made to order for $50 (ish).
If you're interested, I can put you in contact with the crafter. I have nothing in it unless there's some difficulty with shipping or such. In that case, yes, I'll help you.

Duluth makes wallets That last me years. Before I used these I replaced wallets every couple months. They are firehose with leather trim.

Hi...
The NRA store had a pretty decent leather wallet.
My wife got me one a couple of years ago and it has held up really well.
Of course, being retired I don't have any money to put in it, so that may be contributing to it's longevity.

Go to Accurate Reloading forum an in the classifieds a member named Will sells great elephant hide wallets. I’ve used one of his for years and it is tougher than all get out.

I bought a Filson leather wallet for the exact same reason. I wanted a chunk of thick leather, heavy stitching, and no plastic windows or fabric. The Filson fit the bill perfectly, no pun intended. Be warned that you are gonna have to pay a little more than you are used to in order to get a real quality wallet. Mine looks like it will be the last wallet I will ever need and I plan to be around for a long time!

The NRA squanders enough of my money they will not get more!
Probably WAY overpriced to boot.

Orvis has leather wallets, several styles, made from American Bison which last forever. https://www.orvis.com/wallets-and-money-clips Black Dog

My wife bought me a Swiss Gear trifold wallet 5 years ago. It is real leather and gotten so soft it has conformed to the shape of my butt cheek.
Don't know if you can still get them but I would buy another when needed.

Wow, that is a lot of responses! Thanks for all the replies. I will definitely check out everything listed here. Well maybe not a cowboy store. I don't even know what or where that would be. But I would be happy to check one out if there is one in the Saint Louis area.
I was just thinking of other leather goods. I have a leather portfolio/letter pad holder that I got 42 years ago that I still use. And I think my leather checkbook cover is about 25 years old. That's the kind of quality I want. I certainly recall getting at least 5-8 years out of wallet, even then they looked better than the way my current looked after just a couple of months.
Thanks again!

Your present wallet may be made from “bonded” leather. Sorta liked particle board. I think Full Grain leather is what you are wanting. I can’t add to all the excellent suggestions already made.

here's another late addition. Carhartt on sale. https://www.carhartt.com/products/Detroit-Trifold-Wallet-CH-62244?cid=eml_06052019_MS_M_6G_GiftGuide_DadDay&et_cid=23710034&et_rid=410501002&linkid=https%3a%2f%2fwww.carhartt.com%2fproducts%2fDetroit-Trifold-Wallet-CH-62244%3fcid%3deml_06052019_MS_M_6G_GiftGuide_DadDay

Hey Cholo !!! What did you order? :D :D :D

I didn’t know Simply Rugged makes wallets. It’s interesting he writes on his website his son up in AK makes them. I’m glad to see family businesses like that prosper.

I looked at every offering listed in this thread, but I couldn't find the perfect wallet anywhere. Some said imported so that eliminated them as I wanted Made in USA. I found a 15% off coupon on the net and went with this one:

Now, where's my $100? :)

I have a belt from Hanks. It is excellent. Their service is also top rate. They make a variety of wallets, as well as sheaths and key holders. Check out their site.
