...and it gave me a little hope. Let me explain.
Lately, the headlines have been nothing but doom and gloom, petty battles over bruised egos, real human tragedy ie nightclub shootings and devastating fires - both with huge losses of life, Cities and communities burned to the ground with the holidays just around the corner. Navy SEALS killed in a 'copter crash. The Left pushing hard for more restrictive gun rights laws. The media spreading their special kind of hatred. On and on and on and on and then some more. Sheesh.
So, today, on my way home from that lovely cess pool of humanity's losers and degenerates,
that place I call work, I saw something that somehow made me feel good for a few moments. 15 miles off of the freeway out in the middle of nothing but wetlands, cattle range and some crop fields I spotted a magnificent red tailed hawk sitting on a telephone line. Not ten feet away, on that same section of line, sat a single solitary mourning dove. A hawk, and a dove. Sitting side by side. The hawk was facing north, the dove was facing south. The hawk had the wind in his face, the dove had the wind to her back. I stopped so I could watch and ponder this scene. After a few minutes I stepped out of my truck to take a picture, but the dove took off before I could snap the photo. The hawk didn't seem to care at all. I admired him for a few more moments and then got back in my truck snd headed on home to the ranch.
There is much that we learn from animals. I'm not certain what these two birds were teaching me, but I know that their display gave me hope. Maybe I'm getting soft and sentimental as I age but I was briefly moved by the rare and strange.sight of those two birds sharing a brief resting place in peace and solitude. Pretty cool. I wish I could have got that photo.
Peace and God bless, Wolfsong.
