I need some education please

Ok, I have a new model single six. Serials staring with 67-

How do you know if it is a hunter or convertible?
Also was it a VAQUERO? is that what they were call along time ago?
Sorry if I sound silly with these questions.

Hunter models (SS, SBH, RH) have scallops milled into the barrel rib for mounting scope rings.

Vaqueros are centerfire revolvers and have a groove milled in the topstrap for the rear sight and a patridge front sight.

Call Ruger customer service with the serial number. They can tell you if your SS was made as a convertible. If (and only if) it was and you don't have the second cylinder, you can send your piece to the factory to have a second cylinder fitted. No idea on what that costs.

If you use imageshack there are two links to the right of the image. One link says "Links to share this image" and the other says "Links to embed this image. You want to embed the image. Click on the link that says "Links to embed this image" and click on the box to the right of were it says "forum". This will copy the link in your buffer and you can do a paste into your reply.

This looks like a 5.5 inch stainless Single Six, not the hunter or the "Vaquerto" version (the Vaquerto is a Single Six with fixed sights like the Vaquero's and New Vaquero's. It was never officially called a Vaquerto or a Vaquero). You will need to contact Ruger to see if it was shipped as a convertible, unless you have a 22 mag cylinder with the last 3 digits of the guns serial number engraved on it.

I just checked with ruger myself about getting a replacement cylinder. They wanted $65 for the cylinder, $50 for labor, and $30 for return shipping.

What you have is a stainless Super Single Six. The "Single Six" has a windage-only drift-adjustable dovetailed rear sight and a "half moon" front sight (like the old Colt SAA). The "Super Single Six" has a screwdriver click adjustable rear sight, adjustable for both windage and elevation. As you have already found out, it was originally a convertible, and should have had both the .22 LR and .22 WRM cylinders.

Personally I wouldn't buy the magnum cylinder if the gun has the long rifle cylinder in it. I have a blued single six convertable with both cylinders I have never even put the cylinder for the magnums in the gun. The L.R. cylinder is the only one I use. The ammo is cheap and a great gun for plinking and for a enjoyable day out shooting without breaking the bank on ammo cost the magnum ammo is expensive and loud to shoot. I will probably never use the magnum cylinder in mine. But if it has the magnum cylinder in it now I would definately send it in to be fit with the L.R. cylinder
