It seems the Professor's year-and-a-half old cockatiel, Angel, is developing quite a vocabulary.

Including one particular phrase I really wish he hadn't picked up. Let's just say it isn't very "angelic" and leave it at that.

Sounds like the old situation where "children" remember "what you said" when you wish they didn't?

I thought you had to have lips to pronounce words starting with 'F'.

Apparently not, alas.

You know the worst thing? The first time he said it was when my mom was helping me clip his wings, which is really a two-person job (one to hold the bird, the other to straighten out the wing and trim the feathers). The birds, of course, don't like it very much.

So when we finish Mom gets Angel to perch on her finger and she says "I love you." A phrase he also really knows well. Alas, "Love you" wasn't Angel's response.

And Mom burst out laughing, which only made it worse...because now when Angel uses that particular phrase, it's often followed by "Ha ha ha."

Errrrgh. *headdesk* *headdesk*

Have you started looking for recipes for "cockatiel"?

I think I'm going to have the same problem with my 2 year old grandson!?
Need to start washing his mom's mouth out with soap!

You ever heard the joke about the nasty-mouthed bird that got thrown in the freezer next to a chicken?

Seems fair to me, he didn't want his flight feathers clipped. If I'd been grounded for no reason I might have used a similar epithet.

There was a pet store outside of the Presidio at Monterey back in the 60s that had a Myna Bird who could swear like a DI. His best was "Careful, I'm a xxxxing eagle". There is no telling how many GIs bought this bird with a down payment prior to pay day only to discover much later that the shopkeeper had switched it with a totally dumb duplicate.

A friends dad had a small dog and a macaw. If you ask the bird "where's the dog" the bird would respond by calling the dog.

We pulled a pretty good one and taught it a different response. We weren't there when it first responded to the dad's query about the dog, but we did hear the explosion quickly followed by my friends name. First, middle and last.

So, how did the bird respond. When ask where the dog was the bird responded "the dogs dead". Not sure if it ever forgot that line or by buddy's dad just never ask again.

Lizards in Thailand can pronounce at least one quite clearly, and I believe it may be the one in question.......

A drugstore owner had one back home. It would say, "Don't just stand there, buy something!"
