I guess I'm TOO picky

I have spent over an hour, on-line, looking for in-ear hearing protection that is above -28db.
I have tried several search engines, including the one on Amazon (WHAT A FARCE!) and
have yet to find any that meed my self-imposed criteria.

What bugs me the most, is when I specify ONE manufacturer, or ONE configuration (in ear)
and I receive over 75% results that DO NOT meet the search criteria.

ARRrrrrG! Color me frustrated.

FORTUNATELY, I do have a set of Peltor muffs that are -30db, active noise reduction (sound
above 85 db is clamped down in micro seconds). That helps me retain the hearing I have.
My search is for something that will produce those results, but be "in-ear". . . . SIGH!

Now that I have vented . . . . anyone have some suggestions? - - - Thanks. ;)

If you search under Moldable Ear Plugs you may have some success. I found references to sources. That being said, their longevity is in question because you must take care of them and keep them clean. You can get ones professionally made, which takes time because they require molds of your ear canals, or can buy a DIY type. Other than for being less irritating or getting in the way, many say they have no more reduction in noise than the more popular types.

Here are 2 I use all the time. I guess I'd give the nod to the Hearos because they're softer and still do a good job if you press them way in. The Mack's are not the yellow ones you buy at Walmart. They work well when it's warm but get a little stiff when it's cold out. Both of these are cylindrical shaped which is all I can wear.

Years ago I had my ear Dr. make me the custom molded ones. They sucked and I never wore them. Others find them fantastic.

Soft ones work well if you install them properly. Most people just squish and push.

Roll the plug between your fingers until they are as small as they will get. 1/8-3/16. Then using the opposite hand pull up on your ear a little and slip the plug in with other, keep rolling right up until insertion. Then just put your finger over the plug so it doesn’t expand out.

When I do this you can’t even see i have them in.

Foam and muffs. Even the worst foam and cheapest muffs when used properly and together are better than the best (and most expensive) gear you can buy. With that said, tho, I have a pair of top end Peltor N/C muffs that I regularly use without plugs when I need to hear range commands, etc.

What I do when searching for stuff on google such as batteries or just stuff to buy I start the google search then go to page 6 to start finding the real items in my search that aren't connected with their larger customers. Most of the time it works real well. Not sure this applies to your issue but it is where I start my serious search...good luck
My hearing is already bad from other methods than gunfire(gunfire helped I'm sure) but I use full size muffs and that helps from losing any more hearing...that and staying away from big noisy guns these days
