Bought my first center fire semi auto.
Have owned a lot of guns over the years, but I have always loved the feel of the wheel guns.
Today I crossed over to the dark side.
Put the money down on a Ruger sr40.
Now the long 48 hr wait.....

I had to wait almost 45 minutes to get my SR40 from when I bought it. Silly NICS was down.

You won't be disappointed. Just dry-fire it (with a mag in... or after removing the mag disconnect) a couple hundred times and clean it real good before heading out to shoot it... get the trigger nice and settled in.

California's firearm laws are unbelievable...and they seem to be getting worse all the time.

Took a 20 minute wait the first time for me. It was about lunch time so I guess it was hard to type and eat a sammich at the same time. Last few have been 5 minutes or so. Then out the door with my gun with a big grin on my face. Glad I don't live in California.

Congratulations on your new purchase. I hope that you enjoy your SR40 as much as I do mine. It is a dream... I think that Ruger hit a home run with this model!

About the same delay in Idaho with a concealed carry permit. NICS never even gets involved.

We have a very low crime rate too. Coincidence?

I am in California, I have been waiting 18 DAYS for my SR9; the shop didn't have one in stock and it took him 8 days to get it and then the 10 day waiting period. I get it tomorrow at 1:30 PM and am heading straight to the range!

No waiting period in MN either...........takes about 15 minutes :)

First congrats on the new gun! Second, what do you love about the wheel guns and why the switch to Semi? Don't get me wrong, the SR series is definitely a homerun, but I am just so curious about the attraction to revolvers.

As for California, yeah, their laws are carzy, but I heard that Sacramento county has now become a shall issue county! Many in the state are hoping this is the beginning. There is a big push for open carry in California and many people don't like it... so I think some people would prefer CC to this open carry and some people are changing their minds about it. It all reminds to be seen, but congrats to those of you in Sacramento county!

Don't own an SR.40...
Own an older model .40.but have total faith in RUGER semi-autos!

Two personal "GhosT " RUGER RULES..


#1 only use RUGER factory mags to break the gun in.
#2Fire AT LEAST 300 FMJ rounds (I prefer 500) before think a feeding problem


300-500 FMJ breaks yer gun in, smooths the surfaces.

Then start hunting down THE LOAD for yer gun!


Picking a Ruger for yer first auto.....a good choice...as they usually function well...and fit JOE AVERAGE's hand great!

I have a number of remington frame cap guns that let me enjoy the "romance of an earlier time?"

I have and do own semi autos but they are all rimfire.

Looking forward to shooting this sr40 this weekend.

As an added note, I do not like to keep firearms loaded at home. This semi auto will let me have the flexibility of have a gun at ready access, without have a loaded gun.

Had a Ruger 357 Blackhawk, really liked it- traded it for my SR9c, and every now and then I miss the 6-shooter. Until I shoot 18 rounds in a row from that 17-rd mag without reloading.
SC takes about 5-10 minutes, once you have your CCW you fill out the form and you're outa there.

No wait in Missouri either. Fill out the form, write a check and out the door in 15 minutes.

I don't have a 40, but I love the SR9c I bought earlier this month.

Keep it loaded, Hogan - full mag, one in the chamber, safety on. If you have kids in the house get a good bedside pistol safe with a digital keypad for quite access.

By this time next year, I think Wisconsin has a good chance of goin "shall issue". Hope you enjoy your new purchase.
