Bought an item here on the forum from a pretty long time member (joined in 2008). Not a major poster over the years but enough that I was comfortable with the transaction. Posted I'll take it Jan 15 and PM's went normal - where to send check, where to send merchandise, etc. Sent check on Jan 16 and didn't hear anything. PM'd to ask if he got the check on Jan 28. No reply but I found out that someone (can't read the signature) cashed the check on Jan 28. Still no reply and no merchandise.

He has a facebook site in his sig line but it looks like the last posting there was 2017 so I don't know how good any info there is.

How would you proceed?

I should have known that as soon as I wrote the post it would show up and it did. So I modified the post a bit.

But it still stands, communication between the seller and the buyer would preclude these posts from happening.

X2 ! Doesn’t take much to keep the buyer updated!

I would contact the police of his town or city and explain the situation.
That should get his attention. I believe That also could be Mail Fraud.
Got luck, care to name the individual might save fraud on another forum member. ps

Ummmm.....the merchandise arrived as ordered.

Just for a follow-up to this thread, when you buy something and it arrives, it doesn't take much effort to send a pm to tell the seller it arrived.

I wonder what the hold up was :? I'm glad that you finally received what you bought!

Last year I bought a gun on GunBroker for $900+. The USPS MO never arrived. The seller was a real sweetheart about it all. I cancelled that one and sent another. I get an email last night with her saying that she just received the lost MO and it has a postmark of Feb. 5 2019.

Good communication got us thru that one, as usual.

I'll second this. I've sent stuff before and I know it arrived from the tracking, but never heard a word from the buyer. So yes, feedback from both sides is appreciated.

RoninPA: Glad you received what you bought.

I am more inclined to send a check anymore. I had a check not make it to a seller and could cancel the check and write another one. That one made it. I had another deal where the check didn't make it, and they sent another one. It certainly can happen, or even get delayed. Not sure what's going on. At least with a check you can cancel it if it doesn't arrive, with a PMO you are going to wait 3-6 months in many cases. I don't need anything so bad it's worth it to me to send a PMO.

↑ USPS policy is 60 days and that's how long it took to get mine. That's not saying it hasn't taken others longer.

I learned years ago not to send a certified cashiers check.... did that once and decided to mail it priority mail.... week later and no check .... the $500 for the check was about all the money I had and so I needed to cancel the check before I could send the guy more money... guess what... you have to have the person the certified check is written to fill out a form have it notarized and then send it to you and then you send it to your banks corporate offices..... something like 30 days later I get the money back and send the guy a personal check (which is all he asked for in the 1st place) by regular mail... got to him in two days and guess what also arrived the same day? Yep, the certified cashiers check....

Oh this was for a Ruger Black Hawk in 30 caliber carbine....

↑ That's your bank requiring all of those hoops. I explained the lost USPS MO to my bank and they said, of course, to always send a bank/cashiers check. I could cancel it and they'd simply issue me a new one--just like that.

I suspect because of all the fake cashiers checks that were bouncing around a few years back the banking industry has tried to fix that and by doing so they have created away to clear and confirm a check fast.... I've been told that when a regular personal check gets deposited it will be cleared within 24 hours now.
