How Do You Cook Your Bacon?

If you can unwrap your bacon that way, it ain't done!

Fried bacon is not flexible. And shouldn't taste of Hoppe's No. 9.

Try cooking it on the barbeque grill. You can stretch it out and the grates hold it stretched and flat, cook it on low heat till it's done. The big plus you can cook the hole pound at once, no grease splatters on the kitchen stove, and no lingering odor in the house.

Ahhhhh... but the odor lingering in the house is one of the joys of cooking bacon.

When my wife gets through cooking bacon .... It's like tree bark! :( She says she wants to make sure it's done! :?

How Do You Cook Your Bacon? - My wife cooks it in the micro with a lot of paper towels. She likes it on everything, me not so much. :D

My wife generally cooks it "crisp." She thinks if it doesn't break when you try to bend it, it isn't done. I can't complain, since she usually leaves my part of it slightly less done.

I'm thinking a bacon wrapped supressor is just what the chef ordered for room clearing muslim terrorists ! Here, it goes in a cast iron skillet. Sometimes the recipe calls for the bacon to be cooked until dry and crumbly, but mostly we don't cook that long as per advice in previous posts. Some cooking here right now. Gathering o' the clan later and wife maiking Polish sausage n perogies w/bacon and spinach.

Best way to cook it is on a cooling rack on a sheet pan in a 400 degree oven. Takes a little longer to cook, but it stays flat, cooks evenly, and gets crispy without burning. Plus the sheet pan collects all your drippings so you can easily transfer them to the jar in your fridge (people still save bacon drippings for other cooking, right?). No splatters, and you still get the wonderful bacon smell all through the house.

Hmm... I think I need to go make some bacon now, this post has me hungry!

My wife bakes thick cut Applewood smoked bacon on a grill set in a foil-lined cookie sheet - puts it in the oven at 350 degrees for at least 20 minutes, then checks it at 5 minute intervals till done to taste. Take it off then press grease out with paper towels.

When I was about 12 I started doing odd jobs for a local elderly gentleman with a large garden. The first day I showed up at 5:30 and his wife asked if I wanted breakfast since Marshall hadn't eaten yet. What 12 year old boy doesn't want food? :D She asked how I liked my bacon. I responded I didn't know. She said "Marshall likes his wilted. If you don't like it, let me know." I've been in love with wilted bacon ever since.

Once the fat gets clear I'm good! Crunch is for potato chips.

Do you have a cardiologist yet?

So your cardiologist approves bacon as long as you cook it into shoe leather? Uhmmmm...... yeah right. We're talking bacon, you know that stuff that is 60% fat, 20% meat, 20% chemical concoction. I really don't think the amount of cooking changes that balance enough to matter to any cardiologist. Plus, you don't have to eat it daily. (BTW I met Marshall in his 70's and he made to to his 90's)

I like it chewy. Can't stand that tooth cracking stuff.

I cook it slowly in a skillet, turning multiple times.
