Last week our home was broken into and a large amount of cash and coins were stolen, it was in a small safe bolted into the cement and they pryed it up and took the safe. We have felt very vulnerable since then, I have all kinds of guns but the one I have turned to is my little Lcp. Sitting around the house, at the computer, coming in from the garage etc, feels like an old friend. I have the .40, .357 in a tight but my little friend is always on me. Thanks Ruger. My wife has her Lcr nearby too.

I'm sorry this happened to you and your wife.

We were burglarized in 2007 and it's still pretty fresh in my mind. It caused me to buy two Liberty gun safes that weigh about 1000 lbs each when loaded with our stuff and a security system. We had excellent homeowner's insurance --- hope you do, also.

It's hard to feel safe after being violated in this way.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the toughts, you do feel violated, our home owners insurance was of no use as far as cash and coins go. I have a Liberty safe ordered and am thinking of ADT security. Best of luck to you and yours.

I have two safes, I put them side by side opened the doors and drilled 4 holes thru the sides and bolted them together with 1/2" dia bolts. They are too heavy to move now and they won't fit thru the door or up the stairs.

Since we had to have our dog put down I keep my LCR or LC9 on me. The dog was my early warning system, beside my best friend next to my wife of course.....

I'm sorry it happened as well. I don't mean to add to your concern, but we hear frequently around this area, that once someone is broken into and the crooks found stuff they like, they return for more. I pray that doesn;t happen, and really, I don't mean to be cruel about this or anything. I know yall must be worried sick.
So many seem to think 'it'll never happen to us,' and we simply have to stay prepared. The good part about your story, of course, is your wife wasn't home alone. Speaking of praying it doesn't re-occur, we will pray for peace and comfort for you and yours.

Many thanks for the thoughts, it does mean a lot to us to know people care about each other as we do.

Sorry to hear of what you went through. No matter what is stolen just the fact that someone victimized you is upsetting.A Ruger within reach make things a little better. Last Friday night I had incident myself. Nothing major but the outcome was pretty good.

I have a open utility type trailer parked behind the house. I had some scrap aluminum in it. Not much but enough for a fishing trip worth of gas. I did not unload it right away as it needed to be sorted. Besides you really have to be looking around where you should'nt be to see what is in the trailer.

So about 12:30 I am watching TV and I hear metal rustling. I look out and see a car in the ally that does not belong.I grab my SR9 and head out the back. Did not have my phone as it was totally dead and on the charger. I get about twenty five feet from the trailer and a guy pops out of it with some scrap in his hand. I yell. He stops and turns towards me and is reaching at his waist band he is wearing a long T shirt. He was probable just pulling up his baggy pants so he can run.

I did not take any chances. I bring up my SR9 snap on the green laser and put the dot right on his forehead. It was priceless. The guy started shouting for me not to shoot and broke into tears he was bawling like a three year old. I ordered him to the ground. Did not know what I was going to do as I did not have my phone. He went about half way down but them bolted and took off in the car.

I left it at that. No plates on the car. His description matches half the city. Cops in my area only show up in under a three or four hours if someone is bleeding or shots are fired. Besides I am sure they would of got on my asss for pulling a gun as 90 percent of them I have meet in my city are extremely anti gun.I did not loose anything and I am pretty certain he won't be back and I hope the word gets around about the crazy honky that might shoot you over a few bucks worth of scrap.

Get another dog, maybe a boxer or a Shepard. Dogs really do bother criminals.
Put some outside lights on at night.
Keep your gun ready.

Damn thieves!

Got a big heavy safe coming, installed motion sensor lights around the house, door and window alarms and the neighbors have banded together to watch each others houses. If shtf happens our neighbors will definately come together as a group, 2 old marines, I was airborne, 1 cop and 2 young, tough firefighters, good group.

Hunter had an experince, too, and I was saying you just never know anymore. Glad it ended well partner. In this small community online, within a short time, two of us....gives real incentive to be more careful, doesn't it.

Awful news I just read this. Security cameras are no longer the domain of the rich man only. You can get one for 100 bucks or so at walmart now that may do the job covering a problem area. I have one for my home. It can be connected to anything, computer, tv whatever.

Depending on what package you go with from ADT that may be included already. I have a 5 foot walkway behind my home that is very well covered from observation by fencing and tall hedges. A few months ago around 10:00am I noticed a figure walk in front of the window, the blinds where closed but I could see his shadow. Thinking at first it could be a meter reader, but then remembering my house was switched over to the electronic types they can read from the street over 2 years ago.

What I did next perhaps was foolish, I was wearing an out side the waistband paddle holster with my sr40c inside. I opened the backdoor as loudly as I possibly could and stepped outside where I saw them man walking away at a brisk pace about 15 yards from me. He had a baseball cap on with a light grey cotton hoodie pulled over the cap. It was about 82 degrees that day.... I said very loudly "HELLO THERE". He didn't even react or turn to recognize my greeting/(challenge which was what it really was). He kept his head forward and continued forward until out of site. I have no idea why he decided not to break in before I stepped out. Its possible he heard me moving around inside I don't know.

Anyway ftlupton I totally understand the anger. He didn't even come into my house and I felt it. I think what your doing with the other people living around is a tremendous step in the right direction. Perhaps even exchange phone numbers and put them on speed dial should you witness something unusual on their property or vice versa. Maybe its nothing, a visiting relative or what not milling around the house, but where's the harm in making a call to be sure I say.

All the best.

Just be ready, your house was an easy target once so they may try again.

I still say another good dog is worthwhile also.

Hope you get them if they try again.

every neighbor for 2 blocks have come by and are mad as hell, have added security lights, sirens and other measures. I have used guns in defense before so if I'm home I won't hesitate but only in the home, that is legal in Colo. wish me luck!

Sorry this happened to you and strongly agree with previous advice to get another dog. Breeds with guard dog instincts will not only respond to a threat by sounding the alarm, but will also lay down their lives to defend you in the event an intruder actually invades your home. No security system can do that.

You can also get a simple door alarm, a package of two at Wal-mart is about 20 bucks, picks up the slack for the dog. Don't forget the sliding doors / french door if you have a deck they are a favorite target. Good luck GF

I'm sorry for your misfortune. It has to rank up there as one of the worst things that can happen. I had a storage area get broken into 30 years ago when I lived in CA, but have been lucky so far, where I live now.
