Probably helps it stay in the pocket when you draw.

I always thought it was dumb that western boots were stitched so ornately then worn under jeans. Turns out the stitching makes them stiff, I always wondered why holsters weren’t stitched like boots are.

Holsters are made from far heavier leather that boot uppers. And a different quality of tanning, as well. The leather I once bought for holster making was nearly 1/4" thick. In fact, the ox could not turn his head when wearing it!

They could make them from thinner leather and even have a liner if they used the stitching to stiffen them. I’m not talking belt holsters for single action revolvers. I’m thinking pocket holsters and IWB ones.
