High Water!

The Mississippi River is above flood stage at Memphis, though we remain on high ground. This morning, Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, Nita and I drove down to the Memphis waterfront to observe the high water. Here are some interesting photos, as a fog was forming on the surface of the water. The trees in the background are on the Arkansas side, though there is an island between also.

You’re in for a whole lot more, Bob. I live on the Mississippi in MN. We have a lot of snow and a lot more to our north. It’s gonna be a bad spring.

Same here in western Kentucky between the Ohio, Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers. As if we needed it, we probably had another 2" this afternoon. Lots of roads closed, ferry at Cave-in-Rock has been closed for a week because of high water.

Don't expect it to get better for a while. I'm sending more flood water that way which will take a week or more to arrive. Several county gravel roads and state hiways and LOTS of farm land under water here in north MO.

Still raining here in NW Alabama, too. Tennessee River dams are all running the spillways wide open, lots of roads under water. We have three ways out from our house; one is under water, the second that is close by is threatening to be any time. The third and longest way around is under. The creeks look like rivers, the rivers are lakes.

In the Phoenix area we got more than one forth of the annual average
precipitation, in two days; Thursday and Friday of this last week.

Payson (90 miles North of here) got its entire average annual snow fall in
the same two days.

Flagstaff set an all time high snow fall record in that same two days.

Good thing we've got averages. :roll:



P.S. Where I lived in CO has been colder than billy-blue. Glad I'm here.

About 50 miles west of Bob.This year is starting out soggier than last,and we had over 75 inches last year.
We are on high ground,with a roadway between us and the St.Frances river flood relief ditches,but the main part of the community is on much lower ground.Hoping the rain is over for a while.!

"DANG that Global Warming Climate Change"

Yeah, we've had 3 "global warming" events here within the last 3 weeks. All 3 involved a 24 hour temp change from mid-teens to mid-40's to 50*+ within hours.

Bob, that fog is reminds me of how the Caney Fork River looks after they open the gates and start generating electricity. Lots of rain and wind. No damage here.

I grew up in outside St. Louis, where the Mississippi and the Missouri rivers meet. When the floods came........we just called that Springtime. The up-side? I did not have go very far to find good spot to bowfish. :mrgreen:

I guess they'll see if they got the Mississippi levies in SE MO and NE ARK repaired correctly.

Not to demean those in the thick of it but the Mississippi flooding is about as big a news as that there is a wild fire in California. Seems one or the other is going on.

Yes. That is the approach on the Arkansas side of the River.

WOW! I have been across the river on that bridge but nowhere near that much water seen then.

Like 6GUNSONLY said, its a lot of high water down here in NW Alabama too. Flood stage is 18.5 feet and its at 31 feet now and expected to stay that way for about a week. The 43 spillway gates at Wilson dam on the Tennessee river was spilling 3.5 million gallons per second on Sunday. Lots of folks had to be evacuated, its a real mess on low land.

I was in NW AL week before last. There had been a lot of rain north of there, flooding was everywhere.
Then we saw the forecast-up to 10" in the next week. Glad my son's place is on high ground.
