High Flight - 75 years on

I have always loved this poem. R.I.P. John Gillespie Magee Jr.. He perished in a mid air collision in his beloved Spitfire.

I remember this poem well. It was a sign off of at least one of the TV stations in the days of old.
I remember that too as a station sign off from a long time ago. That poem and the Star Spangled Banner were often used to end the day.

Actually, he died when he jumped from the Spit too close to the ground and his chute didn't open.

Picky, picky. :D . His Spit. was damaged due to the collision. That's like saying it's not the fall that kills you but the sudden stop at the end.

Well it is the sudden stop that does, unless you have a heart attack on the way down.
