Help on OM 45 Value???

I bought this not too long ago and am considering using it as trade or sell to get another revolver. I got a great deal on it but I want to know its approximate cash value or trade value to private party. Here is a link to pics in my initial posting about it. Any help is appreciated.

I would say it should bring around $650-$700 as they are harder to find than many other models. I paid $625 for a short bbled one that was strictly a shooter a few months back.

Thanks for the help on that. I am undecided on the trade or sell except I have so many 3 Screw revolvers now.

I have one like yours, without the box, and if I were to sell it, I would start at a $750 asking price. I really don't know what 3-screw guns are worth, as I haven't bought one since 1973. I gave $100 with a box of .45s back then.

That's a nice BKH45, BearStopper. I wouldn't take anything less than $800-$850 for it.

Keep in mind, there were less OM 45s than there were 44 flattops... You just don't find them, in that condition, every day.

I'm going to be a bit of a voice of dissent, here. Having sold off a couple OM .45s in the last year, I can say that the values quoted can be difficult to actually get. Ruger prices have softened since the economy tanked. I really like OM .45s - they are one of my favorite Ruger models. However, they are not as universally appreciated as some other models, so they can be slow sellers at times if one is seeking the "market" price.

Not that long ago, I tried to sell one in similar condition to yours here on this forum for $650 shipped. Didn't get a single bite. After months of trying to sell it, I finally traded it for what I considered to be $500 to $550 trade value.

Anywho - I'm not arguing the values given. OM .45s should be worth more than Flat Tops, in my opinion. However, if you decide to sell it, you may find you have to wait a while to get the quoted numbers.

BTW, it appears your stocks have stainless hardware, which would make them incorrect for this gun. That will ding the value a little bit if a purist buys the gun.

Very good point. I think maybe prices have softened on just about all shooter type guns. (I don't know about high-dollar collectables) I bought a NIB, unfired, still-wrapped-in-the-bag Vaquero Sheriffs Model just before Christmas for $400. I have bought two S&W Model 19-3 for $50-$150 less than they would have brought a year ago. I think the economy has an effect, and I know the frenzy has cooled some from what it was 18-24 months ago. Now, guns like the older S&W revolvers and OM Rugers were not the guns the causers of the frenzy were after, but the residual effect increased price/demand on practically all firearms.

I think since the economy is down there are less buyers and more sellers resulting in tougher sells. Even so this is kind of a hard to find revolver so since I got it right to begin with, I can afford to take less if I choose to. I have a 4 digit Super Blackhawk 3 screw that satisfies me so I guess somehow I don't appreciate this one as much as I should.
