Hello all,

Just joined after picking up a nice-looking 22/45 at the local shop. I'm pretty pleased with it; only had time to put 6 clips through but fun so far. I'm by no means a seasoned shooter or firearm owner, but aim to be.

I'm fairly certain this is a 22/45 Target, it looks similar to a KP512MKIII, but lacks the "Loaded chamber indicator," and has a notched front sight like the P4MKIII. The plastic Ruger case that came with it has "6/93" stamped inside, which makes sense as the serial starting "220-32" jives with a manuf. date between 93-94 if I read the Ruger site correctly.

Here's a couple of blurry pics. Would love to have someone correct my assumptions or help me verify what precise model I have.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

KP512 is the model. The pre-mark III 22/45's lack the LCI, internal lock and mag disconnect, making them basically perfect. I have one just like that, and it is an awesome shooter.

Thanks for the input, 98_1LE. Good to get some clarification on the model. Based on what I'm seeing for similar 22/45s, it seems like I got a good price too, which is a nice plus.

My bro-in-law has a MkIII which I've shot quite a bit and the mechanics of this were different but I couldn't put my finger on it.

I was considering a scope, but mine lacks any sort of receiver/mount. Regardless, really looking forward to shooting it.

Welcome to the Forum!
Ruger started building a little 22 semi called a "Standard" model back in 1949. Then along came the MKI,, and both models were built until 1981. In 1982,, they came out with the MKII versions, which had a few nice features the earlier guns didn't have,, such as a 10 round magazine, the bolt could be operated with the safety on, and a bolt hold open lock. They made "Standards" as well as the MKII series. (The main differences are that the Standard has a tapered bbl, and fixed sights.)
Then,, in 2004 they started building the MKIII versions where they added the loaded chamber indicator, a magazine disconnect safety, and moved the mag release to the side vs the bottom of the gripframe.
So, basically, we have an evolution of a firearm.
So,, you have a MKII variation,, and your BIL has a MKIII. MANY of us prefer the MKII's over the MKIII's.

Well, I would be inclined to say its not a "target" model, simply because I had a first year production 22/45 target model, and it actually said "Target" on the barrel.... On the other hand, other than the word "target" on the bbl mine looked pretty much Identical... Except it kinda looks like your bolt is blued, and mine was stainless.

my was an even earlier SN than yours, 220-007xx, made in 1992. It was VERY accurate and a GREAT gun, despite being 12 years old when I bought it. I did eventually sell it. The reason being I prefer blued/black bbls, when I bought it I got such a great deal I thought I could handle the stainless, but later decided I was wrong. I hope to get another just like it someday, only with a black bbl....

If its got an adjustable rear sight, its a target model. All 22/45s have the mag release in the same place.

I have half a dozen of them, and I like them all! They are great pistols.

Yes, it actually does have "Target" stamped on the barrel, probably doesn't show up in my blurrycam pics. Looks just like dacaur's pic.

Yes, rear sight is adjustable.

Sounds good, appreciate the help. I suppose after some searching on the forums the past week I'd have figured it out but man, you'all are very helpful. Really appreciate it.
