Well,
I'm in NY now, I will head back out to AK on Wed's. I got a few extra spots on my liver for this trip, but all and all had a great time, lots of Ruger gun's, Ruger stuff and a fine get together on Sat-night. but most of all there was outstanding Ruger Fellowship! It was great putting the face's with the E-mail's and phone call's. Not to mention, there are some really funny folks out there. It seem's like I fit in well......LOL

Radical Rod won best of show with his 10,000 plus Bear Cat display, Mike had a "Gun's of the 50's" display. there was one nice example of every gun made the 50's with box's, paper work, ammo.very cool. Lee had all his 40 SER# guns from Salt Code auto on down, Mr. Googs had all his "odd gun's" there, U's, S's,*'s and D guns, they fit well with his personality (LOL)......All killer!!! displays.

Me, I showed up with one gun, gun show promoter gave it "Honorable Mention" and said the
"Holy Ruger! Display" was a little different, but I was just trying to have a little fun.

Ill post pic's of my display soon.......Scott

Scott,
I warned Rod about your liver spot problem! How you like to pass it around I hope you were nice to Jerry & Jack!! Sounds Like Fun!
Hey Scott stick around a couple weeks & come down to Tulsa! For the Spring Show!

I will have to admit a good time was had by all!!! At least that's what someone told me!   Many thanks to Matt for another excellent effort. By the way, forget ham for Easter, I think it will be salmon steaks and crab legs!!!Coogs.

PS, how about some pic's???? Anybody got some, mine are a little blurry, well, they probably are, if I could find my camera, or did I even take it?    Coogs.

Hey it was a very interesting weekend

Meeting Scott was every thing I had hoped for    and some I hadn't hoped for :o :o :o

I got to "school" him on a couple of gun deals

And I think COOGS is the only man we know that may be able to "KEEP UP" with BIG BOB :!: :!: :!:

And Scott was inaccurate....I only have 990xxx Bear Cats in my display ( cat guys will get this one )

Richard W aka 41nut had his awesome guns there for the faithful to fondle and wheel&deal....I may have acquired one or 2 or 3 or 4

Tom S aka fish and hunt nut had a TON off vintage ammo for sale at very fair prices

Bill H's trade table almost beat me out in the judging....until we were told it was a trade table NOT a display table :D :D :D

I will have to step up my game next year as I see 8pointer aka "RUSSELL" Oliver was "UPGRADING" some iron and since he has now won the INTERMEDIATE class he will be in ADVANCED next year    this one probably hurts a little because his name is "JERRY" and the raffle winner was "RUSSELL"....Jerry's new knickname

I have many more stories but I will leave some to your imagination.....lets just say we had a good time....RR.

That raffle drawing sure made my heart skip a beat...I met Russ the following day. Seemed like a nice guy which is a very rare thing for an Oliver, at least in my clan.

Super good time. Learned a lot more about Rugers. Spent a lot on Rugers. Actually sold a few. Met some new folks...all great guys...I even heard my first reference to the Banana Splits Show in oh, maybe 40 years. Scott, maybe that should be your theme for next year.

Rod...don't think you have much to worry about from me in the advanced class. I am several thousand Bearcats short.

Many thanks to Matt for organizing the event.

Jerry, no wait I mean Russ.

I hate to bust up the good fun and I wish I was there to enjoy but my funding is not as good as most of the more intense collectors it seems I just collect shooters. Anyway I was wondering if there are very many of these type of shows on the East coast or Midwest or what ever they call this dang region. I would like to attend a display show just to see what I will never have and meet some of the great Forum Members. We have regular gun shows here but that is for mostly sale and trade not displays. Thanks for the help. Sorry if this derails the thread just was hoping to join in sometime.

Scott was a hoot to meet. His display showed us his true character. The first few moments of looking at it, you couldn't help but to laugh! Classy & comical!
Coogs was in normal "fine form", especially sat evening. Bidding a good amount on different stuff at the auction, & he made sure he got the earrings & the crabs! :D :D
Congrats to the winners of the displays,,,! And yes, RR's display of the cats was one everybody should have seen.
The awards this year were VERY cool! (Thanks RR even though I didn't get one!)
If you wanted to get some truly rare & hard to find Rugers, this show had them. I counted at least 5 Hawkeyes for sale, 5 Tri-Colors, Single digit guns, brassies etc. It was a great weekend for me in my few scores. (I got a Super that had been cut to 4-5/8" & had a factory brass frame for the huge sum of $500. and had to follow that with a boxed Tri-Color.)
But the best treasure was the socializing of all us Ruger nuts afflicted with Rugeritis! (Where did I see that,,!)
I'll try & get some display pics up soon.

I had a great time at the show. Thanks Tyrone for giving me the push to show my meager collection. I learned a lot by looking at the other displays and talking to the long time collectors. Next year I hope all will see an improvement in mine. I'll be able to expand it a bit (with a little help from collector extraordinaire Bill Hamm, whose trade table would take first in most displays). Thanks Bill for thinking about me, the 380 Rim is a great addition.

Scotts display was a hoot, the comments I heard were anywhere from "Huh?" (I then explained the display to them and then they got it), to laughs out loud after they looked at it closely (especially the "Peep" sights) to one person that said "I just don't think that's right" (the pics of the Popes with the guns).

Matt, as always, did a great job, especially when you take into account he was in the middle of relocating his home to WV. Thanks Matt.

Rod's Bearcat display was awesome, Tyrone had some impressive additions, so much so that he had to have 2 displays

Everyones displays were impressive, I heard many positive comments from the general public that were looking them over. One guy said (and I passed this on to Matt) "They should have signs at both ends that say "Ruger Alley", he was amazed to see all the different Rugers, he told me that he truly did not know that Ruger made so many things. Then I give him a short synopsis on Ruger tools, autos, and Pine Tree Castings and he was floored. He said he had a Ruger auto (older 4 inch Mark I that was given to him) and he never realized the Ruger line was so extensive. He said he will look forward to seeing it again next year.

The wife had a good time too (she got a real nice rocker out of the deal). I think she now realizes how much fun it is and she has even given me some suggestions for next year to help make my display better and to make it easier on us (she didn't like the chairs, wants different ones next time - and of course she will get them - cause no one's happy if momma ain't happy :D ).

And I did get another "beater" to fix up (Tyrone will attest to the beater status).

Funny how you picked up on that "BUG EYE" thing, thats why i got them for this display, I was thinking of poking hole in the big bunny, but thought that would upset the kids. i must be getting soft......LOL

It doesn't derail it. The RCA (Ruger Collectors Association) puts these displays on at several gun shows across the US. Some of the Ruger collectors are able to do a display at many/all of them and others kinda stick to their region (due to the distance). I couldn't afford to show at the others but I'm close here so I started by showing my Six series guns this year. The Ruger display here at Harrisburg is just a small part of a very large gun show (it is sales and trade except for us and a group that does a military display). I can attest that you don't have to have a lot of money or a huge collection to do a display. The displays are to educate people about Rugers. Some have absolutely great displays but they have been collecting for years and years. Others have very modest displays. You don't have to own never fired Rugers from 1949, you can display anything you have, we want the public to see the genius of Billl Ruger. Hopefully others will respond also to give you even more backgroubd on the displays. And BTW, if a person owns just one Ruger, they should join the RCA. It's only a few bucks a year but the information you can get through it about Rugers is outstanding.

Thanks for the advice I will look into the RCA and into joining I like to learn as much as I can get my hands on about them to better help myself as well as otheres. In my area I must be the main Ruger nut as I have two LGS owners who refer to me about Rugers. I have had a few and still have a bunch but nothing of what I would like to have. My want list grows every day however my wallet does not. I have been lucky though that my wife has finally understood my handicap towards Ruger and she does not fuss to much. Thanks everyone and I look forward to meeting some of you in person one day.

I took pics of all the displays for Matt. He couldn't find his camera when we could get good pics w/o the public wandering in front of the camera.
However,,, I'm currently experiencing a computer problem where I can not "attach" anything to any email, or photobucket or anything. GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Just as soon as I get the glitch fixed,,, I'll post pics.

These shows are exactly what PoninPA has said,, a great way to educate the public about Rugers. I've been displaying for years,,, and it took a lot of time for me to win "intermediate" class & get into "advanced. Why? My stuff isn't as rare or pristine as many of the FINE displays others have put out. Heck, this year,, RR had one heck of a super nice Bearcat display,,, with 53 Bearcats, including the only known "S" AND "D" marked gun. Stunning! But,, as noted,,, it's more about educating the public than trying to outdo one another. We have many displayers who are in a non-judged class, (Master) who know their stuff is top-notch! I recall the prototype for the Spanish RSSE being a one gun display. Hard to "beat" something like that! Don't get me wrong,,, competing against one another is more fun that competitive. The items we get when we win a category is NOT the driving factor. The other things we all get as displayers is much more satisfying.
So, it does not matter if you only have one or a few Rugers,, you can set up a display. I promise you will have a ball & start immediately figuring out how to "work on it for next year!" (Right Ron?)
Heck, I have a dozen ideas about other displays that I'm working towards. I even picked up a few small items to compliment a future display at H'burg.
I don't go to any other shows as the distance is a bit prohibitive, as well as the timeframe. Tulsa would be great,,, but it's during hunting season,,,,,! (And further away!)
So, if you have a desire to enjoy showing off YOUR Rugers,,, just figure out a theme, build it to what you have & come on out! You will have fun!

Collect, where ya located at? I would think there may be a Ruger show somewhere with in a decent distance to ya. If not, get an idea, build a display and put it up at a local show. Most show organizers love the idea and some will even cut you some slack on table fees if your just displaying. And by the way it's a good way to pick up some new stuff, that "rare bird" may just be the next one to walk in the door!!! And they will probably come right to you because your the man with the "Rugers" When I couldn't afford to go long distance to the RCA shows back in the day, I set up at some local shows. And don't EVER worry about what you have to display, or what YOU may think about what SOMEONE else will think about your display. Get an idea, a theme, and go with it! Heck, last year I displayed @ Harrisburg "just some shootin' #1's. Eight rifles, and I even forgot one and left it at home, so I had an empty space! (Musta had a little too much GJ when I was loading up!   ) I started collecting Rugers in '78, first display in '85. I displayed "Warning Model Single Actions" I will tell you, I took a little flak, back then if it wasn't an "Old Model", it wasn't collectable. Well, I'm here to tell you, all Rugers ARE collectable. And ALL Rugers, in ANY Theme, ARE very displayable!! Even non-weapon Ruger stuff, memrobilia, paperwork, drills/tools, boxes, etc., etc.!!! So, get an idea, work on it, and go with it! And trust me, I don't know of any Ruger collector that wouldn't help ya out! Best bunch of yahoo's I've ever been associated with. (they must be, the tolerate me   well, and RR too!  ) Coogs.

Well said Jack,,,,I've admired your "Grit" on displaying New Models back when that wasn't "Kosher" That "Warning Model Single Actions" display of yours is super!! Just got up and walked into the Gun Room and took a DEEP breath,,Yep RR was right,,,NM's,, :D :P !

I have always thought that one of you guys who displays on a regular basis, should write an article on displaying with any and all info on themes and judging! After all if the RCA really wants to see the displays grow in number then someone who has been there (displayed & judged) needs to inform potential displayers just how the process works beginning to end.

All the above is true, and well said. I show up 6K miles from home, with ONE gun. a 1964 1022 Ruger rifle, this was a "silly" display, and I can tell you we had more people smiling, giggling and walking away shaking there heads......It was a little different I must admit. But I was just there having a little fun. and let's keep it in prospective, I was "hanging out" with Coog's and Radical Rod, This made me feel like I?
had some kind of "cover".....Ya know.....How can I do any wrong with them two around, with all there "madness and dysfunctional way's ".........LOL

All displays made folks "think", Talk and ask questions.......Scott

Ok guys I am located in Maysville, KY about an hour from Lexington and 2-3 hours from Louisville. I have been to a lot of gun shows but do not see to many just displays. I have seen one older gentleman at Lexington that has some good Rugers but they are mostly for sale. I am going to check into the RCA and into joining and I may think about doing a dispaly if I can come up with something as a direction to lean to. Thanks for all the help and encouragement.

Heck all you need is one RUGER and a story.....

look at MR DEERSTALKER's display......one gun and some BULL SHEET.....

wah lah presto one fine display    RR.
