Handloads for an old Flattop

Could anyone suggest a mild good shooting load for my '58 vintage 44 ?
Cast bullet loads prefered, Unique seems to dirty up the gun after a few rounds.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. :)

Look into any of the good 44 spl loads, and you'll find them quite nice in that old Flattop. However, if I recall things correctly, Unique is a good powder to use in that as well.
Many of us don't care how dirty they get while shooting, as cleaning them gives us another pleasure of owning them.

I find 7--9g of Universal under a 240g cast bullet perfect (I use 7.3g and a CCI350 for 870ish from my 5.5" Redhawk).

Thanks to all for the suggestions.
I'll keep tinkering with the Unique as I have tons of it.
As for the cleaning, it does add to the fun. :D

Hodgdon's Universal Clays or HP-38 are cleaner and both are very versatile for light to medium loads in the 44 magnum. One powder I like that is slower for medium to heavy loads is Alliant Blue Dot; 12.0gr-13.0gr and a 240gr bullet makes a great shooting and accurate load in my 44 magnums. 8) 8)

9 grs of Unique and a 235-240 gr SWC. Sweet load and not too hard on the old Flattop.

Flatgate clued me into using SR4759 in my 1960 .44 mag FT and I found 17.0 grs excellent for a "no stress" 1100 fps from a 250K bullet (262 grs).Very accurate, shoot "flinchless" all day long day too! :wink:
