So, to help out a friend of my wife's who is trying to deal with her uncles estate I bought a pistol today..

Here's the questions which everyone can guess at or if you know then sure....

#1: What is a 6.35 cartridge?
#2: How much did a 6.35 cal semi-auto Beretta pistol cost in July of 1968 from a Montgomery Wards in Florida?
#3: How much did a box of ammo for it cost then?

The original receipt for this came with the gun.... I don't think it has ever been fired... even once....

.

* 6.35 is the metric/European designation for the John Browning designed .25ACP

* IIRC, they used to sell for around $39 back then - I think the MSRP was $45

* I bought some of that ammo in the late 60's, and IIRC it cost about $6 box/50.

The only commercial loads for the .25ACP (and the .32ACP/.380ACP) were FMJ/hardball.

.

The .25ACP would have been the Model 950B Jetfire. (1955-68, when they started to be made in the US).

This is my Beretta Pocket Auto, in it's urban camouflage

I used to have one of those in .22 Short. Only got to shoot it once or twice before poverty forced me to sell it down the road.

Come to think of it, my aunt used to carry the .25ACP version in her purse back in the mid-'60s. Wish I had that one but I'm sure it's long gone.

You know what Fox Mike, you are right... I was planning to probably pass it on... have no need for it or another Caliber.... this one was made in Italy.

Since pete44ru showed a picture of his urban camaflog I'll post one of the box this pistol came in:

Are you left handed? I ask because of the way it is laying in the box a lefty would pick it up ready to use without having to turn it over.

I'll get around to listing the correct answers to my questions either later today or more likely in the morning....

pete44ru was pretty dern close... hard to believe how things were back then....

I just remembered, my Beretta wasn't DA...and neither was my aunt's...and neither was James Bonds. The DA version came along much, much later.

BTW, when I got back on my feet and was able to replace my guns I had to sell, I couldn't find another Beretta so replaced it with an Iver Johnson TP22, sort of a shrunken Walther PPK, in 22 LR and I like that one a LOT. But the old Beretta was cool and I'd snap one up if I came across another at a good price.

Isn't that what James Bond used in the first films, then went to the PPK?

The only things I remember about Bond's Beretta from both the book and the movies was the armouror taking it away from him and issuing the PPK. In the movie Bond tried to sneak it back into his pocket but gets caught.

I inherited a Beretta .22lr from my father-in-law. I don't remember the model, but it was the one that Mossad agents used to take out several of the Munich terrorists. I gave it to my daughter.

I've have a Beretta Bearcat in 22lr and of course it is double/single action... and is temperamental on the ammo it likes... have not shot it in years...

This one is single action only, the interesting thing about these of course is the flip up barrel which is a nice feature for a woman... who can't rack the slide.

The exact answer to my original questions:

#1: What is a 6.35 cartridge?

25 acp caliber of course

#2: How much did a 6.35 cal semi-auto Beretta pistol cost in July of 1968 from a Montgomery Wards in Florida?

$44 not including sale tax

#3: How much did a box of ammo for it cost then?

$5.70

I have a question about this gun and that is why I'm posting again... to bounce this back to the top:

What should I have paid the friend for this little pistol and how much do you think she would have gotten if she took it to a gun shop to sell?

Oh and I now have the original box of ammo from 1968 and am pretty sure I know how many times the pistol has been shot ... 15 rounds missing.
