Gun Show: 2 Rugers I WILL own, and the bad news...

I hit the Jonesboro Rd. Atlanta show today, GA's biggest. I went more to see friends who have tables, really good people. I got to hold a Ruger Talo 2.75" round butt Redhawk. All my .44 Mags. have a min. 6 1/2" bbl. I've never seen a need for a short barreled .44, until I held this beauty. I now need one more gun I didn't even know I needed 12 hours ago. It just felt so damn good. I don't know what they're selling for, but it was $779.95 + 7% tax. The fit/finish were impeccable. I don't know what the going price is so I'll wait a bit. It really is nice, though!

I also saw my 1st black nitride slide and frame Ruger SR1911 CMD for $799 + tax. I didn't know if it was rough finished like the, unacceptable to me, finish on the Springfield RO 1911. It was as smooth as a baby's bottom and quite handsome. They also had a Navy Seals high polish CMD, but I can't see the $1,199 price boost. I'll pass on that one. The black nitride was fine, but the grips looked like they belonged on a $2 pot metal pistol. Easy to change out. I have both versions of the stainless SR1911's and don't know if I want the 4 1/4" or the 5". I know, just buy both :)

The bad news: What in the hell was Ruger thinking when they went to the stainless steel hammers on their blued model SA's! Forget the fact that they look like stir fried $%&#, they don't even come close to fitting. Some have a 1/4"+ recess between the grip frame ears. Talk about cheesy looking. My favorite guns are Ruger SA's. I'm just glad so many of the older ones are still available. I don't care for stainless single actions, though the new Single Seven .327 intrigues me. I'm just glad they didn't make a blued model with that miserable stainless hammer. Ruger needs to send the bean counter on that one down to Taurus.

Thumbs up on the black nitride SR1911's! I'd only like to see different grips and a solid blued trigger. Easy changes. A huge thumbs up on the Talo shorty Redhawk .44 mag. Excellent job, and I will own one!

He says he reads every e-mail that comes to him... how you use that knowledge is up to you! Personally, I think it's time his loyal customers start holding his feet to the fire instead of praising what a great job Ruger does of fixing up stuff that should have never made it to the shipping box in the first place. ;)

Rick, perhaps I should tell Fifer what I think about his new single actions, and I don't care if they're stainless or blued. They now seem to be the red headed step child in Ruger's lineup. I think they've done really well with their LCP and SR1911's. The new shorty Redhawk was a prime example of Ruger at its finest. Seems they've kicked us SA lovers to the curb in many ways, at least with me.

BTW: I recall Fifer's uncalled for email response to you. You have to admit that you really spoke your mind :lol: No matter, I own a small business and I really appreciate my clients that call me and lay it on the line when something's not as they expected. How am I to know if they hadn't called me? Maybe an email to Fifer is in the very near future.

I have no problem speaking my mind and I also have no problem with others that do the same in whatever context. I do not own the business that I work in, but I do appreciate feedback, both good and bad, otherwise I do not know if I am performing acceptably or not.

+1 it's not Bill Ruger's company any more. They seem to have lost all pride in what they are building. I'll keep buying Rugers as long as they are 5+ years old.

Having spoken to Mr Fifer many times, he does read his emails. He said he can't respond to all of them, but he does get them. To have a CEO take that kind of time shows he does care about us, but often he has to weigh many things besides one person's interests.
I've tried several times to get them to go to replaceable front blades on all the single-action handguns (like they do the stainless ones,) to allow folks the ability to swap out a blade for a taller or shorter one for their loads. so far, it's been a no-go due to a supposed cost thing.
I will agree that some of the things we see at Ruger aren't what we wish they'd do, but the bigger picture is often the reason we don't get what we want.
However, by politely letting them know what we think, and when many of us do so, it MIGHT make a difference.

I haven't handled one of the Talo Redhawks yet, nor the 1911's like you mentioned,,, but if you do get one I'll be glad to break the cherry for ya! :D That Redhawk does seem interesting!
Oh, I have one of the 327 Single-Sixes,,, you are welcome to try it next time you are up here!
