I've always had the NRA gun insurance. Not really happy with them It's a pain to change the amount of coverage and when I call the company, the person on the phone always seems peeved that he has to answer questions.

Anyone have any recommendations?

We use State Farm, I had some insurance with them on guns, but canceled it about a month ago. It was a 50,000 policy, which was far far more than I needed for $350 per year.

In a safe, with two dogs , an 8 foot fence, and a house alarm, I figured I’m good.

See if your homeowners specifically excludes firearms or if they’re considered personal property.

Firearms, jewelry, collections, anytime I have priced insurance it is so high I don’t consider it worth it. Yes, I may take a big loss at once, or the loss of a thousand cuts to prevent it, but in my eyes it is nothing I can’t live without versus house insurance.

I checked on my home coverage and there is a listed amount for personal property coverage. I added up all the things I thought were valuable in the house and then add in a little bit extra. It would be for the guns and I found that overall coverage already listed in my policy was adequate. They don’t ask me to add a list of what I have, but you should keep a current list of what you have and the approximate value. Pictures are necessary. Then if something happens, which I pray it doesn’t, you should be fine. Just be able to prove what you’ve lost and the value..

I'm in NY. NRA Lockton discontinued our coverage some years ago. My Homeowners covers $XXX. I just put on a rider for the excess. Easy and cost effective.

If your Homeowners doesn't permit guns at any cost, find a new company.

I had gun insurance years ago, when I couldn't afford it, and I got tired of always updating my account because of gun trades etc. Mine are stored safely and should I lose them due to a fire I will have much more on my mind than my guns.

All insurance is going up... my businesses general liability doubled last year and I moved to another company that only went up a thousand or two....
as for gun insurance.. I have the one through the NRA... but I've only got about a third of what I need.
Insurance is no different than smoke detectors or wearing a seat belt... you have them and never plan to need them.
Allstate wrote my wife a check for $147,000 back in January and they have already said they will send more.......
At least with the NRA insurance I just pay them every year... but I don't have any guns that are specifically special other than to me.
then again I just realized that I have two Sig Legion pistols that each are worth well over $1,000 each....

It's probably so high because of the potential for fraud,

I've used Collectible Insurance Services for years.

My home insurance great home coverage but has crap coverage for guns, jewlery, cash etc. I have a gun policy thru Gallagher, 800-545-9326, broker for Hanover Ins., had it for years. Cust rep is Laura, great peson and knows her stuff. Very simple policy. Covers up to $40K without any pics, serial numbers etc., more than the value of my stuff but that is the base. If you want more than that amount then they need specifics. Flat premium $150.00. Has many other bennies included.
Very simple, premium comes due, I pay it, file it and don't worry about my gun coverage.

I agree with others that having a rider on your homeowners insurance or an umbrella policy like I have makes more sense, But it also depends upon quantity and type of weaponry...i only have 4 platforms which are inexpensive EDC models...if you have a " collection" then your situation and needs are different

Thats funny, I just made a post on firearm Insurance……I just picked up a blanket coverage policy for firearms. It is time to protect them. Yes, it is expensive and many think a waste of money! But, it really depends on the conservative value of your collection. For me, when your guns are conservatively worth as much as a really nice home….. its time to protect them.

I self-insure on everything I can. If I spent 350 a year on guns I'd have 10 decent guns in 10 years, so why have insurance?
