Trying to come up with something creative to do with firearms. I find firearms very difficult to photograph and make them look good.
Hi, Jeff
I think folks have a lot of different ideas on what makes a good firearms picture: whole gun, part of the gun, innovative background, etc.?
For myself, some of the gun pictures I've liked best were taken somewhat like your pocket watch and guitar shots: focused on just a small part of the entire gun. This is especially attractive (to me, at least) when dealing w/ engraved and inlaid metal, and bits of highly figured wood...
And then w/ your flintlocks, I'm still trying to figure out how to get you and Tom Black together for a hunting trip, but I know that's gotta wait until the extra time shows up. Mean time, if you look at some of his pictures in the Hunting forum, in many of them, he does the whole gun against a very authentic background, complete w/ accessories such as his possibles bag, which helps give the viewer that "I was there, too" feeling.
Whatever you choose that works best in your mind and looks best to your eye, I trust we're gonna like it!
