I have an early model S6 with the original wood grips. My serial # begins with 150-6****. The factory says it was made in 1973. Where can I find a set of bigger grips as I have large hands and the original grips are way too small. I've seen grips advertised, but they all say beginning with serial # 151-***** up. I figure you guys should be able to guide me. Thanks in advance.

Howdy, and welcome to the Forum!

It's hard enough to find the original grip panels for the low-back sixes. Finding anything other than those will be close to impossible.

If grips are a huge issue...Maybe you'd consider trading your low-back, for an equivalent-valued high back. Then, you can buy whatever type of grips you'd like. Many folks would like to have a low-back Security Six.

WAYNO.

Thanks guys, but believe it or not I just came across a pair of Jay Scott Walnut grips out of NJ on Ebay. I guess it was my lucky day.

I traded off these two pair of low-back Jay Scott grips, some time ago.

I've not seen any, since.

Good find.

WAYNO.

Nice lookin grips Wayno ~ I'd sure pick up a pair of those if they showed themselves.

You can find them on Gunbroker but some are pretty pricey. They also come up on Ebay from time to time. I installed the Tyler T on my post 151 Security Six for the same reason, I needed more grip area to grip. It does make a difference. I also went with some larger wood grips on my 4" SS.

I looked up the grips you speak of MurftheSurf. Those look pretty good. I sometimes forget to check out Ebay, mostly checking the 3 major gun sites.

I was going to recommend Herrett Shooting Stars, which may be worth a look at some time if you have a large mitt. They feel pretty good in my hand when I am looking for a thick stick. I also have noticed they have these for the 1st issue Security Six.

Someone had an burnt ivory set on a Security Six that was media blasted and it looked pretty good. My memory fails me on who it was.

Glad you got what you wanted. I hope the grip "feels" like you want it to.
