Gripframe Swaps

I purchased a XR3 last week with the intent of putting it on my OM .30 Carbine. I bolted it on and the fit is great. I'll have to make some stocks for it ( the ones on it are stolen from a Flattop .357), then touch up a couple of scratches on the frame and I'll be good to go.

I had some spare time this morning so I decided to finally start fitting the Bisley hammer I bought last year to one of my 4 5/8" .32 magnums. I pulled it apart and made the marks on the hammer for what I needed to cut away. Before I could start I got distracted. I pulled a Bisley .32 out of the safe and changed the frames and parts between them. Not sure if they will stay this way but I will at least shoot them as they are for a while.

4 5/8" Bisley .32.

6.5 " drift adjustable .32 with XR3 RED.

And all 3 together.

Boy you were not kidding about that XR3 bolting right up! It looks like it was made for that 30 Carbine. I love the short barrel bisleys. I know the 327 you bought is a 5 1/2" but the shorty's are still great guns in my eyes.

I've been playing with the idea of putting an alloy single six GF on my 357 Vaquero in an attempt to lighten it up.

I like that.

The XR3 fits as good if not better than the original gripframe. I am still trying to decide if I am going to strip it and go for the Skeeter two tone look or just polish the scratches and re paint it black. I wil have to try and get on making a set of stocks for it soon. I may go all out and have a pinned front sight fitted, and put a Bowen on the rear. It is a really good shooter.

The short barrel Bisleys really appeal to me. I have a couple of others. The only problem with it set up is it is really heavy. I think the 4 5/8" single six as it comes from the factory is one of the best trail guns that Ruger makes. They only weigh around 29 oz. I do have another so I may eventually turn this one into a full time Bisley.

It is amazing how much extra weight Rugers carry with the addition of a steel gripframe and ERH. They are noticeably heavier than the comparable sized Colt. You can see why they went with the Aluminum GF in the first place. One on a Vaquero especially a .357 makes a lot of sense.

All you need now are some steel ejector rod housings.

Very true, steel ERHs would be perfect on them. I have changed over a few, on other revolvers.
