Got an Security six in trade today. Got home and removed grips. Isnt there supossed to be a smmall steel dowel at the base of frame to help hold and center grips. Theres a hole and holes in the grip that line up. This gun is pretty rough and not a collector, can something else be used or will I have to find a OEM part.

Go to your favorite hardware store or home center and get a roll pin there.

The roll pin is 5/32" diameter and 3/4" long will give you plenty for the grips. The frame (at the backstrap) is approx. 13/32" wide.

I bought a sort of hard to find at a good price XR3-RED (no N) from a good forum member here that was missing the pin (that was disclosed beforehand). Couldn't find the proper roll pin locally so I made one from a spare drill (cheap) I had at home. Took a long while with it chucked in my cordless drill backwards with files and sandpaper to get it down about 0.015" (drills are hard, duh) from original but I got it done. I polished it on my wheel then cut it off to the correct length with a Dremel. Had to chamfer the cut end then oil and press in. Pressed using a small socket for a backer and a hammer to drive in.

Take the above advise first but know there is more than one way.
