Great Utility Combination

In the early 1980's I bought one of the best utility type firearms ever made. It was a Harrington and Richardson Model 258 Handygun II in 20-gauge and 30-30. It was in nice carrying case that was perfect to stick behind the seat of my truck.

It grew feet with a lot of my other guns and tools and I have always missed the concept of having a compact kit like that in one package.

I have had a 12-gauge New England Firearms shotgun with a 22 inch modified choke barrel and straight grip stock and Schnabel forend for many years. I found a 22 inch 30-30 barrel to fit the shotgun frame and had a carrying case that fits perfectly.

The original one was electroless nickel with a round forend while the one that I put together is blued with the Schnabel forend but I like it and think it is just as good as the first one if not better.

That with 50 assorted rounds of 12-gauge and 20 rounds of 30-30 would be very comforting. I also keep a Henry AR7 in a fitted case in my truck for emergency purposes. A nice thing about the AR7 is that you can put it in your suitcase and keep it in your motel room in an area where you can't legally carry a handgun. It might not be the best firearm for the purpose but it's much better than nothing.

I bought a cool combination gun a couple months ago, a Tikka 12/222. A super handy pair to have in the same package. Only other combination gun I own is a Springfield Armory 22/410 and have loved that ugly little thing since the day it followed me home. I need to figure out what rings I need for the Tikka so I can throw a 1-6 scope on it and see how the 222 barrel shoots. Don’t mind the laundry!

Ithaca sold this very combination as their turkey gun in the early 1970's. I would have liked to get a Baikal MP94 in 12-gauge over .308. Throw in a Ruger KMK4 and a 10-22 and you have enough gun to handle most situations.

Yes Sir, this gun was imported by Ithaca.

Not a combo gun, but do have an H&R Topper 12 gauge that I had cut down to 19”.
It served as my truck gun for years before retiring.
It rode in a floor mounted rack behind the seat.

My truck gun is my Savage 24-V 30-30/20 Ga. with a 1-4x Leupold scope. I keep a box of 125 Gr BT and a box of assort 20 loads with it.

I bought one of the New England Arms Handi-Rifles in 30-06 then sent it in and had a .223 bull barrel and a rifiled 12 gauge barrel with sights. Very accurate and handy rifle.
I would love to have an old Savage 24 of some flavor. Over the years, I've seen a 30-30 and .357 over a 12. Those things must be made of gold now.

I bought something similar for my daughter when she was around 8. it is a Rossi youth matched pair. 22 and .410 barrels. I thought it was neat you could tell if you were ready to shoot the 22 because you could only see the rear sight if the hammer was cocked back. it is a very accurate little rifle and the 410 shoots well also
