Wonderful monsoon season drive to work. Through rain all the way. Landslides across the roads. Areas of washes overflowing across the road through Yava Flats. Love it. And the Palo Verde tree that came off the cliff and landed behind my truck was - motivating - for sure.

We haven't gotten either of those in a number of years.

However, using those stats, we got a sixth of or yearly rainfall today.

Keep in mind that in the desert, not much of the rain actually soaks in. Instead it runs across the surface as a flash flood. Two inches of rain here causes major problems.

You sure can look forward to the desert coming to life. It sure is purdy after it rains.

Had a wee bit here yesterday too. 6+" at BWI. Broke a record for the most rain in a 24 hour period. I had to drive from home to BWI, 45 miles, last evening to pick the wife up from a trip to Cape Cod. A thrill a minute...at 45 MPH...behind a semi...with the wipers at max speed...and couldn't even see the lane markings...raining, raining, raining. I swear I heard a voice saying "Noah!"

Where we're at, the monsoon storms go north and/or south and around us. We sometimes get the wind and the dust, rarely the rain. Last night Phx got hammered. We watched it for 3 hours come up from Tucson, turn north and go around us.

No offense, but why would you risk your life going to work for? Unless your in a life saving profession, that is.

Maybe he was trying out for one of those Subaru commercials. :D

The rain missed us again but hit to the near west in San Antonio. It flash floods here too, especially in summer, because rain is so infrequent.

I lived in southern Az for most of '71 and can't remember it raining at all. I enjoyed my short time there.

It rained a little here last night, a trace. So far this year we've had a total of 3.06 inches. Our normal average for a year is under 8" including snow.

Love the rain. Hate the mud. That about sums it up.
Most Americans don't understand how to deal with rain in the west, where essentially the skies only weep twice a year.

Here on the mountain we expect another issue after a good summer storm - panners! Flatlanders from the city take a 2-hr ride and trespass every accessible gully and streambed looking for gold flakes! Problems arise when you walk out for your morning coffee and hear/see ill-prepared and ill-informed strangers digging up the drainage. Some bring 4-wheelers and dogs, further insulting my property and peace of mind. Wanna play in the mud? Do it on your own land.

Of course a little target practice off the deck usually helps move 'em along. 8)

You got flake? Where did you say you live again?? Finding some color is on our western bucket list.
