Open the cylinder and look at the inside of the frame, is
there a "Star" stamped there?

The best way is to call Ruger Records with the ser. no. and ask the nice ladies there what the model number is. If it is a New York gun, it should be a model GF-84NYCPD.
We have recently found some that were "overruns" and sold on the commercial market. Since the 'Star" stamp on the crane was the New York PD's armorer’s acceptance stamp, these would not have the "Star" as they never passed through the PD's hands.

been seeing more and more of these Sec.Sixes, Speed & Service Sixes coming into the country, and pop up at the gun shows, most we have seen also have the "importer" stamps ( markings) on them in various places too, and these were NOT NYPD guns..............
