Google "jeep" view

One of the things I occasionally do when bored (yes, I have no life) is to go on google maps and look around in areas away from the cities where they have street view. I figure I'm never going to actually get to visit 99.9999% of these places but I do find it interesting to "look around", so to speak. Some of the more interesting places I have found are what I call the "dead ends" where the street view ends. I've found that many of these seem to end when the pavement runs out. In a lot of cases the dirt road that continues the road look passable but I don't think that google wants to risk getting their Prius-es (or whatever the plural of Prius is) dirty or stuck. I was thinking the other day that at the "dead end" of these roads that google ought to get a jeep or other 4x4 and mount their street view camera on that and continue down the road. They could call that "jeep view" instead of street view. Anyway, just an idea.

Its good to know that there are other 'folks' that look at Google maps also. I enjoy looking at the major airports of the world. Good Google viewing for the future.

Thanks

Mike

Cowtowner, I do the same. Check out Lambert Field (STL). Since TWA got bought out there are lots of gates that are no longer used in the old terminal area. Looks like a ghost town. I've been on ramp side dozens of times and it is sad to see them just rotting away.

Next time you are "bored" google the street view for this address 3049 E Vernon Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90058 and let me know if you recognize this spot that was in a well know horror movie about 30 years ago. Can anyone name the movie, the actor, and the scene that was shot here???

Correct movie title but wrong actor. This is from the scene with John Travolta where he climbs a ladder to get over the wall with a bucket to collect some pigs blood. Now you will all have to watch the movie to check it out. This is the Hormel owned Farmer John meat plant. The entire block is surrounded by this wall with a country scene mural. It was re-done/touched up 2 years ago to make it seem more 3D in appearance. Just one of those little known trivia facts that you never know when it might come in handy to know.
