Goodbye SR9c

I sold my SR9c. It was sold along with a FNX-9 to this the herd. I grew tired of it after a while. I was consistent with it - consistently mediocre. I never could shoot it as well as my other handguns. After seeing other handguns, I realized that the SR9c was relatively cheap feeling and with a lot of rough edges.

I considered keeping it for a concealed carry weapon, but decided against it.

I will be shooting my new SR1911 a lot in the near term. It has a lot of potential, and I think I will be able to become proficient with it.

Sorry to hear you sold the SR9c, I will never sell mine it is my favorite carry gun.

Sorry to hear you didn't like your SR9c. I love everything about mine. I'm not sure what you meant about it feeling cheap with alot of rough edges. Mine looks great and is solid.

As for myself, my SR9c WILL be the last gun I would ever give up.
For me, mine shoots the best of any handgun I own, including my SIG's.

But, have fun with the SR1911, they are nice guns too.

I kinda feel the same way. My groups aren't very tight and I just shoot my other guns better. I know just about everyone on here loves the gun and is very accurate with it, but it just doesn't shoot naturally to me. Guess I'll stick to my Glock and CZ. I have it for sale on Armslist right now. Hoping to sell it soon.

I'm surprised to hear the accuracy problems. My SR9c is one of my most accurate guns, and a joy to shoot. The FNX is a good gun, but, I suspect you may miss the SR9c in the future. I'd never get rid of mine.

I was consistent with the SR9c, but my groups were much tighter with the PX4 Storm 9mm, S&W Model 686 (.38 or .357) and S&W Model 629 (.44 mag) - as in .3-.5" tighter. Now, the SR9c has a barrel that is the shortest out of that entire group, but it was close in size to the PX4, and I was shooting at 7 yards.

I got rid of my SR9c a couple of years ago but I thought everything about it was rock solid with one exception, recoil spring. It was so stiff I couldn't slingshot the slide without ripping skin off my hand and fingers. No other Ruger I've owned had this problem. I modified the slide latch to function as a release, put several hundred rounds through it hoping some break in would lighten the spring or that a replacement spring might come along. Neither ever happened.

I've been shooting mine more then my other guns and have grown fond of it. I know what you mean about the quality tho... after cleaning my Glock and the Ruger and looking through the barrels you can really see a difference. The Ruger has lots of milling marks and the Glock is like a mirror. Also the Ruger just isn't as smooth but I still like the way it shoots.

Mine eased up to be comfortable at 1000 rds. I stoned the sharp edges of the slide serrations, but it looks to me like the more recent examples aren't so sharp.

I put a 12# Galloway spring/guide rod in mine and it really made a difference - not only in operating the slide but I had an issue with my light reloads which worked fine in other guns but stove piped in the SR9C. Put in the Galloway and it is now flawless. I sold the first one that I had and really regretted it. Unlikely to make that mistake again.

I just picked up an SR9c and cant believe how accurate I can shoot it. I do better with it than I do my SR 1911 and my XD sub compact. I only have 60 rounds through it so far but I am impressed.

I wonder how often you should change the recoil spring on the SR9c? I have the factory spring in mine and haven't had any problems with it.

I bought an extra recoil spring when I got some extra pinky mag plates from Ruger. $5 is cheap when you break down. I have put close to 3,000 rds through mine and I have not switched out the spring for the new one except a to put a mag or two through it to make sure the spare would work. Nice to have a spare. I plan to get an extra for my SR9 next time since it has turned into my IDPA gun and will soon rake up the round count.
