Last week my wife & I had some visitors from Oklahoma, Sheriff Russell Cottle & his wife drove up for a visit & we had a great time, never enough time to do all you would like but we crammed in as much as we could.
Russ is quiet & reserved, much like Ken O'Neill, liked to talk guns & hunting & liked Huckleberry shakes! Callshot bought the small ones so we didn't get much of a sample but it was a start.
We did some sight seeing around the county, shot a few ground squirrels & did a bit of long range shooting, thats always alot of fun. Callshot made one long range shot at about 12 yds, had to jack the rear sight up maybe 8 clicks to correct for the flinch!
Russ had some neat sixguns, brought along a 32-20 that was very nice & then pulled out a stainless mountain gun in 357 maggie with some nice micarta stocks that really a cool sixgun.
We didn't get to do any fishing but the highlight of the visit was a small bull moose that stuck his head out of the willows, I started calling him & he came maybe 30 yds closer & then stopped at about 45-50 yds & tried to figure out if I was his momma.
Would have been a dandy handgun shot.
It was a fun visit with some new friends, we enjoyed them a lot.
This is Russel on the left, Ruth Ann in the yellow, Metha (spelling) in the middle & Callshot, we are loading up on Huckleberry milkshakes!

If any of you ever get to Soda Springs, Idaho you have to treat yourself to El Toro Mexican food, believe me, I've ate it all over the country, this is good stuff!

Hey Russ! I wonder if I might be able to get your daughters phone number??? PM me please!

Hi Dick, I am sitting here drinking that horrible tasting stuff, you know, the stuff they give you just before having a Colonoscopy (tomorrow), so having nothing to do except sitting on the pot, I went to the Ruger Forum and seen your post, The first thing that I seen was that beautiful display of Mexican food, and you know right now I cannot eat anything, so it's just not fair as I am STARVING.The other pictures are great also. Ruth Ann looks great, give her our love. That fishing hole looks good also, certainly would like to cast an adams into that stream. So maybe one day we will make it up for a visit.

This was a great trip, cut way too short!! Dick, Ruth Ann, and Steve (Callshot) are shur nuff 'good people'. If there ever was a 'goodwill' ambassador for the state of Idaho and the handgunning fraternity, these folks fit the bill!! Wife enjoyed the visit and area so much she's talking 'summer house'.

Fermin, my 'daughter' has put up with my habits for so long she's plum spoilt for anyone else   (And I too damn old to break in another  )

Another pleasant "Tales from Soda!"

And I can attest to the quality of the food at El Toto! If I had stayed much longer,, I'd gained a lot of weight!

Well stated, Russ ! Dick and Steve are both fortunate enough to live in the worlds largest playground, and know how to take advantage of it . They are gracious enough to share with others, their wonderful world. Glad you got a chance to enjoy a slice of heaven ! ( and a huckleberry shake :) )

Arnold, sorry to hear about getting reamed, if I had known quicker I could have had Callshot stand in for you! He's good about helping others.
If I can get him away from watching beach volleyball long enough I think we can win a gold medal for eating Fair food. Yesterday it was Navajo Tacos, then peach pie with ice cream, later it was corn on the cob & then Teton fries & last we had strawberries & cream.......& 2 die cokes! Today I'm really hungry so we'll step it up a bit.
Oops, the trout are biting, so are the skeeters, & also the huckleberries are on, I'll start picking monday.

Dick

Hahaha. I chatted with Russ today via telephone. He is doing his level best to keep me from converting one of my new Smith N frames into a Schofield....

Dick, I told you it wasn't beach volleyball it was women's weight lifting. I also mentioned that I wasn't into the catch and release mode around women yet, you might have to take the ladies night at the range without me again! Steve

Dagnabit, I knew I shoulda stayed for the fair! The temps here since Metha and I got back have been 112 or so. Ain't wanted to do much but fort up with a cold glass of tea and read.

Steve, you know if you don't show up for ladies nite, an awful lot of women round Soda springs are gonna be heart broke. Ol Dick's an alright fella, but he ain't THE Callshot!!

Actually, Fermin, I was tryin to convince you that pistol weren't worth keeping and you might as well let me have it.
