My one all purpose, Squirrel to Deer and Black Bear! I got much better at getting my game home clean and neat when I downsized to this great little 4" blade years ago, and left the big cool stuff at home. It takes a great edge and last, I think dollar for dollar it's the best buy for a true hunting knife, 20+ years over 100 head of game, and that aint counting small game, and it still looks nearly new. I own many knives but this is the best knife for 95 percent of my needs, any bigger would be a handicap for most purposes in the field!

Wildcatter,
Nothing wrong with buck at all! While I'm showing off my Evan Martin blades I'll show off all the fixed blades I carry at one point or another. Descriptions and pics taken from one of my other threads.

Starting in the center and going counter clockwise we have:

Dave Barrier (knifemaker from MS) neck knife

Gerber LMF (think that's the model. Its old) these two were given to me by my best bud.

Under the gerber is an old case skinner a friend gave me years ago for a favor I did for him. Shortly there after he moved and we kinda lost touch. This is a reminder of the friendship we had.

Then a knife my daughter gave me for fathers day last year. Dad helped her. They used a blank he got from Jantz and she helped him mark and cut the handle, rivet and glue it on and sand it down. He did the final polishing but says she did a lion's share of the work. I'm most proud of this one!!

To the right at the bottom is a Buck Skinner. Dad had one when I was growing up and it got lost or stolen. I bought him one just like this for Christmas and had forgotten how much I liked it until I got it in my hand. Then a few months ago I was at Bass Pro and saw they had this one clearanced because it had no sheath or box. Got it cheap enough. Now we both have one like I grew up using cleaning out the deer dad would bring home.

The last two are my Evan Martin customs. I've kinda gotten to know Evan and enjoy his friendship and really like his work so I try to do my part by supporting his business. Its great quality so I feel we both win.

Anyway like I said. Nothing special other than each has a special meaning to me. Hope ya enjoy looking. :)

Heres my Winchester fixed blade drop point .It came in a gift set with a multi tool {leatherman style] and a line lock folder that my wife got me for Christmas about 5 years ago .No it's not a hi dollar knife ,but it is easy to sharpen and holds an edge well .Works great for gutting, skining deer and has a nice nylon sheath .It handles well and and is light and easy to tote .

I keep this Green River skinner replica in my truck all the time. You never know when a deer or hog hunt will break out.

It is thirty plus years old and on its second handle and sheath.

The ones I currently use are shown here.

DH Russel Belt knife on left; Fallkniven F1 (basic version) on top; and a later version (5 yrs old??) of Blackjack, Trailguide pattern.

The Blackjack feels GREAT in the hand, but it is a heavy knife and for what I do I just don't use it much. The Fallkniven (laminted steel blade) is growing on me - easy to carry, easy to maintain, and the basic handle works in all situations.

The one I use and carry the most is the low cost DH Russel Canada belt knife. I bought it in the 1970's and it's been used a lot for all hunting and camping chores. Easy to sharpen, easy to maintain, and holds an edge. I have large hands but somehow that little handle, the angle -- all works to make an effective handy knife. When field dressing a deer this one works quickly and effectively for all the tasks where the larger or different bladed knives are a bit clumsy. Of all my knives, if I lost this one, it would have to be replaced.

I bought this Remington maybe 20 years ago. It was one of the early ATS34 blades. It's good steel and the shape is "just right" for my field dressing and skinning needs.

very well made knives, these have Giraffe bone scales, fancy pins and some file work with brass pins.

I use a Randall model 23 (Gamemaster). Done several elk with it, including boning.

But I've a friend who's a taxidermist with a museum (his stuff has been in the Smithsonian). He swears by a Schrade Sharpfinger/Old Timer. I know he's dome hummingbirds to gorillas and at least a couple of small whales.

Well since its the gallery and you want pics ill give ya some.

The first is my small Buck knife. I have had it for about 10 years and carrying with me when ever im in the woods. It has been a greta knife, i just need to put a good edge on it. not the most expensive or the nicest but its small enough to tote around but big enough to skin a deer or whatnot, i wouldnt trade it for any of the big $$$ knives. The shealth has been great. its light and durable, what else could u ask for.

The next knife is one i got becuase i thought it looked cool. It is a Columbia River and has also been a good knife so far. Havent used it very much but the shealth is nice becuase you wear it on the belt or use the para cord to wear it around the shoulders for quicker access. I will take the nice with me fishing and usually keep it in the truck.
